Reaserch and engineering bonuses PSA
They both have diminishing returns. The game only tells you about reaserch diminishing returns in the tooltip but engineering have it to.

It's also different for each of them.
Reaserch, as stated, is at 50%, and the reduction is by 76% after that, so its massive drop.
While engineering is at 100%, and is reduced by 40%, so its not bad but still.
Also for reaserch, org bonuses are added on top of your 50% soft cap, so you can stack as much as you want.
On the other hand, engineering bonus from org is affected by diminishing returns for some reason.
Btw, 1 enginering equals to 5%.

Ok, past this point is just my rant. So you can skip it.

What's the point in representing engineering with a cog/gear points.
Its still just % bonus like reasech. It also serve the same function so why makeing it different and confusing for new players.
Also why there is no info on how much % is 1 point, or even why not telling that there is a soft cap.

That's the thing, just because something make sense to developer, it doesn't mean that it will make sense to the user.
Developers should really think on how to relly information, that they understand, to someone for whom that information is new.

That's because it is an increase to project research and not all research. You can see the cog and your current bonus in the research tab. I guess beside the cog they could put +5% project research to avoid confusion.

Thanks, I didn't realise the org bonuses don't hmhave diminishing returns! That probably makes the +Energy/Military/Social orgs the best to have in mid/late game

by the time i figured out what those little cogwheels meant and what skunkworks actually did i researched the entire tech tree.

my response was... "oh that'd have been neat Next game for sure!"

Small note here, the org reaserch bonus not being affected by diminishing returns must be a bug.
Cause I see that some bonuses type are affect and some aren't .

For example my energy reaserch bonus is completly unafected by cap. I can rise it above 50 without any reduction.

So it might be only on my side, don't go hoping that it will be the same for you.

No, you don't get how diminishing is working for research.

50% soft cap - PER SOURCE of boost.

So you can't get much more then +50% from:
a) orgs
b) science habs
c) councilors traits.

I'm currently sitting on ~+116% Energy research thanks to using all three sources :)
