Mars base

I have all the prerequisites for establishing a base on Mars but the game has no option, unlike the moon or asteroids, for creating an outpost there. Any idea what's up with that? Something I'm missing?

if you probed mars, then open the plante and look for the green spots on the planet that is where you can set up outpost. but the option should show up like for moon or asteroids

Yes, but the option doesn't show up. I've built on the moon and on asteroids, but all I get for Mars is options for orbital platforms.

I built an orbital platform, then it let me build a base on Mars..

It had the option in my games. Are you sure the probe has already arrived at Mars and done its survey? You can't build bases there before that point.

Probe has surveyed. Waiting for orbitals on Phobos and Deimos to be built. Maybe that will resolve the issue. But wasn't the case on the moon. Stay tuned.

Probes take time to arrive there. If you do not have the option to build surface outposts, then it is not prospected yet. OR all the spots are already claimed and you have nowhere to build, but that's probably not the case unless you were REALLY late to the race.

You don't need an orbital station to do it either. You can just send parts from earth or, even better, send a ship with an outpost construction kit there.

Au contraire, mon fraire. The survey is complete as I can access the report which tells me what the various sites on Mars have to offer if I could establish an outpost.

Oh, and no other Ai has established a base, so all sites are open.

So then, you're either doing something else wrong, or the game is bugged.

I don't think there's a bug. Not sure what I might be doing wrong, since establishing bases works elsewhere, but that's why I raise the question hoping someone might have an idea of what i'm missing. I have the tech. I have the mission control assets. I have the other assets. Stumped for an answer.

Much better would be to see your screenshot: Mars with open surface tab :)

Question is now moot. I verified the files. Eleven files needed to be reacquired. The result was that all my save games now won't load, so everything is lost and the mystery remains.
