Granted I would handle things alot differently than the 1 ship policy... Either that or that one ship would be death star class (minus the fatal flaw) and I would dare the aliens to follow me :P
Far as overall strategy goes Initiative being in the middle, not showing your hand till ready would be my strategy if it was a real scenario.
I already feel the world is run by corps, so it only logical to me the defense of the planet would be lead by a group like that.
I do wish they gave us multiple endings for factions, I'd rather kill them all instead of mind control as Initiative.
I support HF and Resistance during my campaigns but not sure if I would play as them. Hate the fact they are just auto hated by other factions off the bat, like let me do the actions that cause them to hate me.
The Academy, I don't hate them, the whole show these xeno we are on the same level as them is a noble endeavor, for all we know an even greater threat exist and we need this new xeno relationship to fight the greater evil someday.
The protectorate and servants, any difference? Basically the same faction with different colors, even the alien agents will raise public opinion for protectorate and they both hand over land to the alien invaders. Prior to that they both get handed free CP's by the aliens. I know this from having turned agents for both factions and have seen them both get Cp's from enthral missions.
I think I hate the servants and protectorate even more, because if this was a real scenario, groups like this would 100% exist. They would support the aliens claiming they bring peace, while nationalist right ring racists groups are against the xeno and peace. They would gain control of the media and popular social networks and enforce their will and ideology. Anything said against them will be labeled misinformation and cracked down on. Wait a sec have we been invaded? Eh who cares I have a shadow org to run.
On top of that Humanity First starts off in conflict with the Xeno's and the Servants start off supportive of the Xeno's.
I'm not going to pretend there's some noble or intellectual reason, I just like being a power hungry bastard.
Cooperation can be bought. All that carefully cultivated pretense of not liking money and power will collapse like a house of cards the moment you put money and power on the negotiation table.
Do you know their ending or just like their initial approach?
Because they're @#$% are worse then Protectorate (and Servants are not that bad in the epilogue).
P.S. Humanity First of course. Because it will be us or them in the end - and that's all that matter.
Resistance for reasons similar to why you like the Initiative. The Resistance isn't wholly invested in exploiting every means of profit, this is true. However they clearly aren't above using the tech they can reverse engineer or design themselves to:
A) Improve quality of life on earth in a direction they see fit within their budget
B) Silently or at least indirectly shape the human political and economic spheres of influence in ways that help them get ready for a threat
C) Expand human influence and thereby new markets after the smoke clears for selling to an ever growing population by establishing colonies/logistics chains that allows humanity to reach beyond our home world (Itsfreerealestate.gif)
D) Develop a military industrial complex on a scale the Initiative can only dream of for future investors to sink their claims in on.
E) Not only look at alien tech and reverse-engineer it, but in many cases refine and improve upon it, showing our attackers we aren't to be screwed around with, they tried to get one over on us and failed, leave our solar system and stop bothering us or keep getting punched in the throat, that's their call.
