i know right projecting power past Mars is probably the final gate between mid game and late game. once you can get your fleet pass mars you can finally start to fight the alien. weather you win or lose is another question but at that point you at least gave them a fight.
and i am in the exact situation you are in man, yeah i got my firestar now but i already on salt water drives..................... and diversifing toward anitmatter so i am not only relying on fission for combat fuel.
Wouldnt it be Jupiter? With Mercury pumping AM and Io pumping Nobles, your pretty much set to take the fight to the aliens properly. Jupiter is quite accessible with mid game tech as well.
sorry to say, but its your own fault.
when enemy factions have spotted your agents, go immediately into the hiding with them. so the enemy loose their tracks and cant sabotage your projects or kill your agents.
at the beginning, its perhaps not so important, but later when your are at war with other factions i think its vital
accessable don't = power projection. power projection is where your main combat fleet can get there in reasonable time.
the difference between mid game is late game is that in mid game you main fleet is staying around earth, in late game your main fleet is need outside of earth.
