1) that bastards coup too much, war is only method and this require at least Caliphate tech to be remotely useful.
2) There are many more useful options.
That's weird. I tried Africa in my first game, because there was so much I didn't understand that I just wanted to try it out. But it was easy taking nearly all of Africa south of the Sahara, and I only had a faction try to take one of my nations once. (I kicked them out, and that was that.)
There's still a lot of it I don't understand - I'm only in my second game now - because investing in priorities just didn't do what the game said they were supposed to do. But since I controlled so many countries, my research was actually quite high. I was heading to the unification techs when I decided to start a new game.
My problem was mostly that I had no boost or mission control, so the space stuff didn't look possible to me. I think I should have prioritized that (which, unfortunately, would require doing spaceflight first). That's the only reason I started over (focusing on the EU in this game).
I still want to go back and try Africa again, once I learn more about what I'm doing. (I'm doing well with the EU. But I'm having a LOT more conflict with other factions in Europe. I've been battling them from the start in my current game.)
