Countries declaring independence upon unification?
Bit confused by this. I unified North Africa into Tamazgha, then united Tamazgha into the United Arab Federation. As soon as I did that, Niger, Mali and Mauretania all declared independence.

Makes some sense inutitively, since the United Arab League doesn't have claims on those regions, but it's not what's usually happened for me in other examples. Normally, if you try to unify a nation by war, you only get the states you had claims on, but other times when I've unified diplomatically (e.g. EU annexing Russia, or Russia annexing the EU), you get to keep every state, even the ones you didn't have claims on.

Anyone know why it's happening here? Was it something in the latest patch that I missed? Or is it to do with unity or stability or something?

When you unify, every country that you don't have claims on has a chance to break away.

I had this problem when i absorbed greater malaysia into Pan-Asian Combine. Philippines and Borneo declared independance, but they got the same status as Taiwan got at game start, as breakaways. The are very easy to unify once u control them.

I think on reddit there was some post about what determines the chance for breakaways on unification.
Dont have the li k handy tho

I had Ivory coast declare independence, on the same turn as i unified it. Literally didn't even have a chance to do anything.

The unrest in Africa is real, it's best to get it under control before unifying
