Every faction suddenly at war ?
Hi guys. I'm playing slowly but surely and now reached 2039 as the Resistance. Still kicking alien ass, even though they have a huge doomstack coming once in a while to blast a space station.

I noticed that all of a sudden most human factions hate me. Like Protectorate and Servant that's normal, I turned their councilors several time, killed them too. I never had any interaction with the other, except Humanity First with whom I traded ressources frequently. For at least 10 years I've been tolerated by all factions, except Servants, and in conflict with the Protectorate.

And now. I'm at war with everyone. EVERYONE. I noticed when all of a sudden the Initiative started murdering my councilors out of the blue. Dude, WTF ?

So. What might have triggered them ? I'm not calling it a bug, so I want to understand.

My "last" moves :

-Build a space station on an astereoid : all human factions already have one.
-Completed the project to interrogate an Hydra : well ? I'm progressing in the main quest but why would that mean hate from everyone ? The others are pretty OK with the Protectorate and its endgame goal.
-Started to research the goal of the aliens : once more why should that trigger everyone even Humanity First ?
-Started to destroy alien administrations everywhere : I'm sure the aliens and Servants are pissed at me for this. Why Humanity first would be displeased about this, or Project Exodus ? I don't understand at all.

I don't see anything I should have done to trigger this shrimp storm, except all was fine for me, I was reaching slowly the endgame, and the AI decided to go on full speed on my ass-ets.

So... any idea ? Did it happen to anyone else ?

It did happens to me during my 2nd playthrough.
Some events can trigger the storm.
Not sure which one was the cause tho.
There's also everyone cancelling their NAP to me, then set to conflict from tolerance.
Not sure how. But i rectified that back.

I presume you become too strong from their point of view, I have same situation, as resistant even HF in conflict with, never had contacts with them, they just don't like that my stick is bigger than their....so maybe that's why they hate you as well.

This is a common 4X problem where if you become the strongest faction then everybody tries to pick on you at once to maintain a status quo. The problem is that pro-alien factions like Humanity First will happily sabotage the Resistance alongside Servants/Protectorate agents, which is just seriously annoying.

I had to scrap a three day run because I had every faction trying their hardest to stop me from building a space fleet. I didn't understand how extremely important marines were, ya see.

I guess you might be right...

I have a crapton of stations, all heavily defended. And my only small fleet is top quality compared to the garbage the AI can get, to the point of winning battles 3 to 1. Not against the aliens, but the Servant for instance. On earth that's the same, nothing can match my armies even the aliens.

This sounds so fudged up, like an anti expansionnist mechanic in PDX games or recently Total Wars. But eyh... Aren't we all in the same boat with diverging objectives ? And it's not as if I attacked them... Not my fault if they lost their own countries against the aliens and I managed to protect mines.

Disappointing. I guess its over for this run, I really don't wanna waste 20 hours fighting 7 factions leagued up against me, having 7 times as many action as I have with no way to diminish theirs or enhance mine. The real problem is not really the 7 factions per se, but the fact you're limited by your councilors, meaning all factions together have an insane advantage.

I don't know that you necessarily need to scrap your run. I've had the same situation for 20 odd years now. If you become the biggest and baddest you can kneecap everyone else if you'd like, not much they can do to resist. I unifed the EU into the Eurasian Union, made the Pan-Asian Combine and Greater India and have them all with really high cohesion with a lot of investment into unity. Additionally I keep reupping defend interest. Granted the other factions opposition has slowed me down but I have no real fear of losing my super states or any agent even provided they have high security and espionage. And it can be done in space as well, just yoink every productive mine they have with Marines or bomb them, that'll keep 'em Earthbound for a while. Most importantly if the other factions are also at war with another, provided you aren't directly antagonizing them there's a good chance they'll leave you be, other than the odd escalation and subsequent smackdown.

If you've got even a little space dominance, you can probably kick the nuisances out of space - at least out of Earth and Mars and hopefully Ceres space.

Unless you bring the fight to them ( funny enougt it's year 34 and they haven invaded yet
Okay so I tried to fight, as of now only the Initiative is trying to kill me. What is bugging me though : I killed all of their HVT but they still manage to perform assassinate once in a while with very low espionnage councillors.

Still that's manageable, thanks for your answers and cheering me up.
