Lots of tabs that are mouse interactive.
So unless you are REALLY good with those joysticks...
The worst I've seen so far is during space battles (skirmish), where some of the labels/fonts are so small they are practically unreadable. For instance the dV values are impossible to read in the fleet outliner (thankfully those values are also found in the ship's thumbnail when you select it).
If the devs can increase the font size by 1-2 units from what it is, I think the game would become perfectly readable ; I don't anticipate the interface would need to be scaled much from what it is currently.
Other than that, playing GSGs with the track pad and triggers is pretty intuitive. I've played Crusader Kings 3, Stellaris and Imperator Rome extensively on my TV using a Steam Controller ; the Steam deck is just a better Steam controller.
Typically, for a GSG or strategy game (such as Anno 1404), I'll have the left stick for camera panning, the right stick for zooming in/out and rotating, and then the track pad & triggers for mouse interactions. You can use the rear buttons to act as your 'shift' or 'ctrl' modifiers and the whole thing quickly becomes second nature.
Then you have apparently never used the trackpad.
