How do you form the European Union?
or any other big union, for that matter. I thought you simply had to take over the leader of the union and a member and then do it over action that costs 10 influence, but the option to unite is grayed out and doesnt tell me what I need to do!

For me there's a tooltip that specifies that the executive control points of the nations involved must be consolidated, which as per the Codex means held for a period of time. Furthermore, you apparently need claims, and if the nations involved don't have any claims on each other yet then it seems you need to research some tech that allows you to generate claims.

Theres a gameplay change from the demo. Big federations cannot unite for the first year or so.

That was back in the demo, and it was way too powerful to do it straight. Plus, pretty unrealistic to have countries give up their sovereignty within a week of a new president coming. If you look, in the country tab, at the available strategic actions, you'll see that there's now a cooldown to "improve relations", like going from rival to neutral, from neutral to ally, etc. So for the EU member countries, there's this cooldown, and you also need to have hold the executive control point for a few months to secure control over it.

This is hard. I managed to grab control over all the EU, but avoided grabbing the executive so I could hopefully stay under the cap as long as possible, plus so I could focus on more nations before some other faction grabbed them.

Now I'm at -4 influence every day, and can't do anything to fix it. I can't buy any more orgs that would give me more influence because they all cost influence to buy, and I'm at zero.

I'm not sure how to fix this.

Abandon some countries, focus on protecting the ones you have, set up a base of influence there. You aren't going to conquer the world in a couple of years. :-P

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I tried to unify Europe, started with Germany, Alps, Italy and Czechoslovakia...and then all of a sudden France and Denmark declare that they are the true EU now.

As it turns out, you can only unify a federation if you hold the federation leader country...which is France, for the EU.

Yes. Why's that surprising?

Control enough places. Make them peace out in a checkbox. Do the unify thing.

You have to control the leading country (France) Executive and another EU country,
and also have to wait for the Executive to be consolidated after you take control, you can see the time remaining to consolidate on the tool tip when you hover over the Executive Control Point.

Yes. Why's that surprising?

because France cant even lead in their own country based on political stability or even economically in the union

? it's only second to germany in term of GDP. and Presidency of the EU have no relation to your polical belief, it change every 6 month. right it's Czech republic, previously it was france, hence the ingame leader being france.

And more importantly because France has been consistently pushing towards a geopolitical vision of the EU, since the EEC in the 1960s.

The surprising part to me was that there was a leader country at all, which the game did not make clear. I've seen some hints by now, but the Unification explanations never even mentioned a leader role - or maybe I overlooked it.

France being the leader is not overly surprising. Germany may be the money maker, but France is more politically active.

As someone else said on another post, if a germnan politician started saying they need to unify Europe under german leadership, it wouldnt be too well received...
