*spoiler* alien tech goal
K I was getting bored on this playthrough, so I decided to shoot down an alien ship. What happens next is, you get two research projects, one of them being to reverse-engineer alien tech.

I noticed on my last playthrough that once you finish the research project, you get another goal popup that's like "This stuff is amazing! Now take down an alien ship so we can study it in bulk! :D "

Uh... I kind of already did? But that narrative hints that there's a easier way to unlock the alien tech goal than shooting down a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dreadnought. Does anyone know what that is?
It'd be nice to know, since I'm supposed to be acting covertly and stuff...

So the 'get alien tech' objective hinted at a bunch of other ways to get alien tech.

...However, they're probably not easier. Things like trashing an alien army (!!!) or installation (!???!!).

I noticed some of the alien councilors are wearing goofy-ass headsets. Do those count?

Couldn't tell you, I haven't seen that. Read the objective text carefully and judge accordingly?

If you assaut an alien facility on earth you get their technology. Then the quest tells you alien technology is reliant on some alien material. You don't have enough to study it but their warships are made with lots of it. Thus the game asking you to attack a warship.

According to the text, and how I completed the quest myself, at this point in the game you're not supposed to attack alien ships as this might make them very very angry. And you don't want them to attack all your space facilities.

What year did you start finding alien facilities on Earth?

I haven't seen any sign of them. Though IDK, maybe that's because I haven't pulled off the alien live capture yet.

Thank you for explaining it. I knew there was a missing step. I also knew the consequences of what I was doing. What i didn't know was how long a fleet of 10 starter ships retrofitted with nuclear torpedoes could hold back their dropships

When do Alien facilities start showing up? Do they only appear after the UFO landing event?

I turned a servant agent to my cause letting me see everything. They had alien structures in various countries, that's what they use to annex peacefully countries.

To turn an enemy councillor you need to investigate up to the point you'll see his true loyalty. Then if you have an agent with the mission turn councillor you can try to make him join your cause. Lower loyalty councillors are easier to turn obviously.

From what I recall, Alien facilities start showing up once the Servants create the Alien Administration, towards the end of their questline.

That late? I don't think my Servants have gotten there...

Ahhhhh okay, so if you've been bashing their knees out for the entire game, the facilities never show up?

As for myself the alien administration showed a few weeks After destroying a first facility. So yup I guess you're right both are tied, though Alien administration will not always be there before you can attack.

I've been keeping my aggro down and still managed to wreck the Servants before aggro was even an issue. It sounds like to complete this, you either need to poke a genocidal hornets nest or let a tumor grow. I really hope there's an easier way to complete this, or at least more to do until that point...

I mean, I don't think blowing up a ship is a terribly wrong way to get that?
