China/Taiwan unification
Hey together, love the game, but unifications confuse the hell out of me ;)

Is it possible to unify China and Taiwan? If yes: how? Can i see the requirements somewhere? Is there a tech needed for it?

To clarify: i already have control over the US, China and Taiwan. Would just like to combine Taiwan and China into one country to save some CPs

They don't have a federation at the beginning, so peacefull unification can only happen after you research techs that allow it (I actually don't know if there actually is a tech that allows it, but maybe!).

Otherwise, if a country that has a claim on another region manages to militarily conquer that region, they annex it automatically. So you know what you need to do (easier if you control them both of course, less chance that someone with nukes gets involved). Just rival one with the other, send a councilor to set domestic policy, and declare war.

You just need to control both countries for 6 months and Taiwan can be peacefully absorbed into China at the player's command. China could also conquer Taiwan militarily, but Taiwan has a defense pact with the USA so this is risky unless you control both China and the USA.

There is an expensive tech you can unlock that allows Taiwan to take over China. That requires a little more effort on the player's part and is more for roleplay.

by the moment you reach "Mainland China Liberation" tech, you likely to have higher democracy score if kept China 100% into Knowledge then Taiwan and this action will be strictly inferior compared to just adsorbing Taiwan 180 days after taking executive point here.

Also the problem with having Taiwan take over China is that this new nation loses out on a lot of future unification techs.

The People's Republic of China can get claims on most of South East Asia, but a Taiwan oriented Republic of China not only loses out on those claims, it loses a few territories just by taking over the PRC.

this tech useful if you want to destroy China, but not useful if you want China for yourself.

Just capture taiwan and break ties with the US. Then take it over with china militarily.

Thanks for the answers guys, what i got so far is:
1) The smaller China flag in the Taiwan details doesn't necessarily mean they are in a fedearation and can be unified
2) Or maybe they can but i need to wait 6 months
3) Or i have to research "Liberating China Mainland" and integrate China into Taiwan

hmm, i'll start with waiting 6 months and see if that makes a difference

Once you have consolidated control(takes 6 months usually) you can join the federation(set policy in taiwan) then you can unify after a while(set policy in taiwan).

Can see what steps are needed and some of the timers by hovering over the other nation in the relations tab after allied/rival.

in my playthrough russia united peacefully with ukraine instead of conquiring them :D

as long as you have claim, naturally or via tech, you can unify anything no matter what, but 180 days countdown for executive point prevent some actions.

but it does not prevent declaring wars and rivals, if you take over Taiwan you can drop alliance with USA and instantly invade with China, skipping 180 countdown but this have some GDP cost, higher militech level, less penalty is
