If you don't have the high speed probes tech and you launched otuside the window it can take a long while to get there.
They cost next to nothing there basically isnt a reason to dump all you can when you can.
Which techs increase probe speed? I presume some kind of propulsion but none of them specifically say they do this.
Are you maybe looking at the global tech tree instead of the faction projects tree? Global techs in large part don't actually do things, instead they act as requirements for faction projects that do.
It says it contributes to High Trust Probes (61%) [the 61% is in red] and the project isn't available. Are there any other techs or projects I need to research/build?
Anyway, High Thrust Probes has a 60% chance of being unlocked for any given faction after the world researches Advanced Chemical Rocketry. The percentage of the global tech research points that you were responsible for is then added to the unlock chance. So if what you're saying means what I think it means, it means you put 1% of the world's research into Advanced Chemical Rocketry, so you only had a 61% chance of unlocking it, and so you don't have it available. If that's the case, then your only options to get it are to wait for someone else to research it and then steal the plans for it with Steal Project, or complete the global tech tree and complete the Physics Future Tech to reroll your chances.
Finding out if there are other techs you need for High Thrust Probes is...exactly what the tech tree does for you.
From the template file, I don't think it has any other prerequisites. Assuming you've had the prereq for a while, you probably just hit that 39% chance of not unlocking it.
All those projects slowly showed up, so it seems like there's a time delay built into when you get them after a tech is researched
