The local solar system focus is central to how the game is designed and the world is simulated. I do think though that when you play, you'll find this is a case of less=more. Having a single star system opens up a range of interesting situations you don't see in most games, including a strategic map in constant flux as planets and asteroids orbit the sun.
My personal peeve is the hard sci fi designs of the ships, because I find that look terribly boring. However it's also a fresh approach that most don't bother with, so I can't really even be upset about it. I'll keep an eye on this, and can't wait to see what becomes of it.
One of the stretch goals was a second, more interesting & scifi-y ship set.
The game itself adheres to the laws of physics, and even the aliens don't have access to FTL engines, so there's no way to travel to different star systems within the game's timeframe of a few decades.
Always wanted to play the aliens in this game but the way it is set it would be too easy, where are if you go to their home system( or possibly another one in their empire) you arrive there outmanned and with lower tech would be pretty awesome.
