I can't get into this game and it's so frustrating.
I love open world story rich games, GTA, The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk, Skyrim, Baldur's Gate 3, AC: Odyssey etc I've played them all, most of them multiple times over.

But for some reason I just can't get into Red Dead 2, it just isn't clicking with me. Please don't hate me but here's my biggest issues with the game.

1. Looting is slow and feels like a chore so I just ignore it.
2. Hunting is repetitive.
3. All the guns feel the same, especially when you use dead eye and can headshot everything.
4. The towns feel the same, a saloon, a gun shop, a general merchant and a stable.
5. A lot of the quests feel isolated and end abruptly with no real continuation.

I remember in games like GTA or the witcher 3 you'll do a side mission and you'll build a relationship with that person and they will give you lots of missions that either lead on from the original mission, or will be a new mission but a similar theme.

I'm just completed the mission where you move camp, from Horseshoe to the other place and the only mission that's been even remotely interesting is the one where I have to bring Jimmie back to his sister.

All the other mission just feel like generic "rob and shoot em up" missions.

I'll wrap it up with this. I think the problem is the era the game is set it, it's an old western so your only mode of transport is horse / cart. All the buildings are going to be basic wooden 1 or 2 story layouts. The guns are all going to be similar.

Skyrim and the Witcher 3 for example are medieval era but because they're not realistic, you can have magic and armour all kinds of cool stuff to offset the lack of other stuff you might find in a game like Red Dead 2 for example.

I just want to experience what everyone else seems to experience with the game and I just can't it's so frustrating because I KNOW the game is amazing. 630,000+ positive reviews can't be wrong... So the issue is clearly with me, which is annoying.

I don’t know fully what to suggest, it’s a type of game you take slowly and ‘experience’ it, but some of the complaints given were because of that and the realism-ish feel.

Maybe someone will have suggestions that will fix this. But I don’t think it necessarily has to be you either — 630k reviews shows it isn’t the game, but that doesn’t mean it is you, perhaps the problem is something like the disconnect between the game’s feel being too different than other games, that you’re not the ‘target audience’?

Though I do want to thank you for not coming here and making a spam threat of “I didn’t like this game, therefore it is bad and everyone here is stupid for liking it” or whatever. You gave the game a try and didn’t like it, it doesn’t have to be anyone’s fault, and you’re willing to even come to the forums and ask for suggestions on how to enjoy it more.
I can’t personally give much advice on this, but hopefully someone else has suggestions or something.

Unfortunately for you it seems like most of the issues you have are with your mindset on it, which is all fine, not everyone is gonna vibe with everything in the same way. As for the looting, you can mod that to be instant. And there's more than wooden buildings in some of the bigger towns. But besides those things it seems like you just don't prefer the approach they've taken to their storytelling. Idk, maybe you will have more fun experiencing it through someone elses view by watching a playthrough or something.

I don't think there's anything wrong with you not enjoying the game. All the criticisms you expressed are actually quite common among people who also don’t feel the magic of this game. The time period they chose doesn’t offer as much variety as their GTA games, where you have all kinds of cars, weapons, and opportunities for having fun.

Regarding missions, the first part of the game serves as a slow setup with seemingly random missions, but at some point, the story significantly improves. However, if you don’t vibe with the world, I don’t think it’s worth it.

Your only ever post on this discussion board is just to say you don't like cowboy games? Ok then, bye.

I think the main story covers all negatives of the game. Main story is really gripping
