You have to create a Social Club account first, and then a Launcher account to play Rockstar games.
It's your SocialClub account; that is all. Used for everything Rockstar.
Launch Steam via Run As Admin.
Launch Rockstar Launcher via Run As Admin.
Log into Rockstar Launcher using your Rockstar SocialClub account.
Launch the game from Steam now.
If the launcher has issues after this it's because you are logged into the wrong socialclub account. Needs to be one you've linked to Steam. If this is your first time launching the game then it will do this Steam Linking automatically.
yeah, I tried same and had same result. There is no way , evidently, for them to accept that emails change. It's frustrating. I tied to go through Steam and they said not their problem bro!. Totally unplayable game(s) b/c they literally have no way to deal with this issue. I can log into social, but it won't let me play my games. I'm locked out. I can't start a new social account b/c games are tied thru steam to acct I can't get into. Their support loop has to be AI. They kept responding with identical queries, asking for proof or screenshots, then only to have different " associate " start same exact review with questions and proof requests all over again. No bueno and clearly, they don't give a flying F.
People that have had the email changed on the steam linked' social club account - are finding in many cases - that a 'new' social club account was created using their old email - it has no games. That email is now currently opening the wrong social club account - and therefore attempting to play the games it doesn't have access to. This bogus account putting the old email in use is also breaking the ability of the recovery emails to recover - needing more steps.
They've been fixing these problems for -years-. Sounds like miscommunication somewhere. And yes, minimum wage csr's getting slammed by these issues over the last 3+ months probably really don't care. And... that is all without getting into people buying/gifting across accounts to sidestep bans, and other shenanigans. Fun stuff.
The passwords can't be different as that means you have RDR2 on the same SocialClub account; one for Xbox and one for PC.
Reset the SocialClub password and ensure you check your email from Rockstar as they will send you email confirmation of this. Write down the new password for that SocialClub account, along with the email address it uses; and keep in safe place. Use that email and password to log into the Rockstar Launcher; set it to Remember Me + Auto.
Hello, did you get a solution ? Same problem here :( I don't have access to the email adress linked to my rockstar account...
Thanks !
edit - Not sure how 'worked okay' is relevant when comparing 2 different problems. Of course it's supposed to work, just like it's supposed to work on steam, and supposed to work all over. It is designed to work. However- as with most things - many of the issues are on the users' end (like compromised credentials / incorrect info), and then places between user and R* - some are literally 'temporary' problems with 'internet'. Near infinite combination of variables.
Has nothing to do with the Launcher bud.
It's an issue with the Rockstar SocailClub account you are using.
Of course it would now all of a sudden work fine on Epic cause they'd be using a new socialclub account that you would have to create in order to own another copy of said game.
Basically, buy RDR2 through EPIC, go on the Rockstar SocialClub website and create a new account, log into this account in Rockstar Launcher (install and setup prior to game install), then with Rockstar Launcher running and logged into new account, now launch EPIC Game Client and launch RDR2 you just bought.
If you refund the Steam one, you can first move the RDR2 Game Files (whole folder) to another place on your drive. Then once the Steam one is refunded, uninstall it from Steam. Then once you have EPIC installed, and configure that for where Games will Install to. Then you can rename or put the RDR2 game files where you need it to go for EPIC. Then install RDR2 from EPIC and it should see your existing RDR2 game files without having to re-download entire game again.
