You have to create a Social Club account first, and then a Launcher account to play Rockstar games.

There is no "launcher" account.
It's your SocialClub account; that is all. Used for everything Rockstar.

Launch Steam via Run As Admin.
Launch Rockstar Launcher via Run As Admin.
Log into Rockstar Launcher using your Rockstar SocialClub account.
Launch the game from Steam now.

If the launcher has issues after this it's because you are logged into the wrong socialclub account. Needs to be one you've linked to Steam. If this is your first time launching the game then it will do this Steam Linking automatically.

I tried it again and I got an error message saying that "The Steam account is already linked to a different Social Club account. Please log in with that Social Club account instead." The problem is that I can't remember my Steam password that I used to login to Rockstar with. Is it the same password that I used when I installed Steam? I'm going to submit a ticket to Rockstar about this, and also ask Steam support if they can e-mail me my password details. I bought the game so long ago I can't remember my Steam password and I bought the game from the Steam store, and not from Rockstar's website.

yeah, I tried same and had same result. There is no way , evidently, for them to accept that emails change. It's frustrating. I tied to go through Steam and they said not their problem bro!. Totally unplayable game(s) b/c they literally have no way to deal with this issue. I can log into social, but it won't let me play my games. I'm locked out. I can't start a new social account b/c games are tied thru steam to acct I can't get into. Their support loop has to be AI. They kept responding with identical queries, asking for proof or screenshots, then only to have different " associate " start same exact review with questions and proof requests all over again. No bueno and clearly, they don't give a flying F.

If you can log into social club - there should be zero issue playing -- IF -- that is the correct social club account with the games on it that is linked to steam. Does it in fact show your game ownerships/characters/progress on that account you are logging into? Do note - there have also been issues in the past for some - where having both epic and steam installed with accounts to R*/logins/etc - sometimes causing problems with the launchers/logins.

People that have had the email changed on the steam linked' social club account - are finding in many cases - that a 'new' social club account was created using their old email - it has no games. That email is now currently opening the wrong social club account - and therefore attempting to play the games it doesn't have access to. This bogus account putting the old email in use is also breaking the ability of the recovery emails to recover - needing more steps.

They've been fixing these problems for -years-. Sounds like miscommunication somewhere. And yes, minimum wage csr's getting slammed by these issues over the last 3+ months probably really don't care. And... that is all without getting into people buying/gifting across accounts to sidestep bans, and other shenanigans. Fun stuff.

I checked on my XBOX edition of RDR2 and I have the same account name for the Social Club on both XBOX and PC. The passwords are different. However, I can play the game on XBOX but not on PC. On the PC Launcher it says that "it can't sign me in automatically and try to login manually", and that "a Social Club account is required to play RDR2 or RDR Online. " My games library on the PC Social Club account says I own RDR2 Online and L.A. Noire. I do have L. A. Noire, but I've never played RDR2 Online, only just Story Mode. It should list RDR2 without the "Online", added, and I'm going to ask Rockstar if they can change that. My XBOX version says RDR2 without the "Online" added. Maybe that's part of the problem. Anyway, when I tried to login to the PC Launcher manually, and I was prompted to do, it says I need to login with the Steam account I used to purchase the game. I've tried that several times and it didn't work.

The passwords can't be different as that means you have RDR2 on the same SocialClub account; one for Xbox and one for PC.

Reset the SocialClub password and ensure you check your email from Rockstar as they will send you email confirmation of this. Write down the new password for that SocialClub account, along with the email address it uses; and keep in safe place. Use that email and password to log into the Rockstar Launcher; set it to Remember Me + Auto.

Same problem here. This issue happened with the new Rockstar Games Launcher. It was working fine before the update. Now it's asking me to login manually to an email that I do not recognize

Hello, did you get a solution ? Same problem here :( I don't have access to the email adress linked to my rockstar account...
Thanks !

No solution yet. Just sent them a bunch of screenshots, again! I can login to the game on my XBOX account and use XBOX's remote play to mirror the game on my PC and play it like that if I want. I saw a post somewhere here on the RDR2 forum that someone said they were having login problems with Rockstar also, and just re-bought the game on the Epic Games Store and were able to login to the Rockstar Launcher through Epic and play the game there. I've never used Epic so don't know anything about them. Might be a thought though, if I want to re-buy RDR2 for a birthday or Christmas present to myself this year.

The buying on epic was to 'fix'/sidestep a different problem - not wrong account, email, password. I bought rdr2 on steam about same time they did and had zero issues with it. Could be connectivity/dns/isp/regional, admin/permissions, onedrive, my docs issues, etc etc. Too many variables to list. Heck, there are even issues where accounts/logins have problems across launchers (usually related to some other issue) - where, for example, renaming the steam, or the epic launcher/install folder - lets the other one login correctly.

edit - Not sure how 'worked okay' is relevant when comparing 2 different problems. Of course it's supposed to work, just like it's supposed to work on steam, and supposed to work all over. It is designed to work. However- as with most things - many of the issues are on the users' end (like compromised credentials / incorrect info), and then places between user and R* - some are literally 'temporary' problems with 'internet'. Near infinite combination of variables.

Has it worked okay on Epic? No problems with the Rockstar Launcher on there?

Has nothing to do with the Launcher bud.
It's an issue with the Rockstar SocailClub account you are using.
Of course it would now all of a sudden work fine on Epic cause they'd be using a new socialclub account that you would have to create in order to own another copy of said game.

oohh to do another account to epicgames to play red dead redemption 2 very clever

Well again, not that your EPIC account would have anything to do with it.
Basically, buy RDR2 through EPIC, go on the Rockstar SocialClub website and create a new account, log into this account in Rockstar Launcher (install and setup prior to game install), then with Rockstar Launcher running and logged into new account, now launch EPIC Game Client and launch RDR2 you just bought.

If you refund the Steam one, you can first move the RDR2 Game Files (whole folder) to another place on your drive. Then once the Steam one is refunded, uninstall it from Steam. Then once you have EPIC installed, and configure that for where Games will Install to. Then you can rename or put the RDR2 game files where you need it to go for EPIC. Then install RDR2 from EPIC and it should see your existing RDR2 game files without having to re-download entire game again.
