Is there a reason the game runs so poorly
I don't have the newest gaming PC, but it's not that bad either, I get 160 fps in cs2, but in rdr2 I get 30 fps on the 1st mission... doesn't matter if everything is on ultra or not, it's the exact same crap. I capped my fps at 75, yet not once did I even break 50 mark... is this normal? I get like 500 fps in gta 5, it's the same exact game with a different skin... what the ♥♥♥♥

It sounds like it's using your onboard GPU and not the dedicated GPU.

Set Windows Graphics Settings > Browse > Add PlayRDR2.exe and RDR2.exe to the listing. Change the Options to High Performance GPU.

What's ur resolution ?

Yeah, no way you get 500 fps in GTA V there's a hard code limit of 270 fps

You don't mention CPU, GPU, Resolution or anything relevant

Well all Online based games you CAN experience issues due to everyone's Ping and overall latency (lagg) and such but when it comes to cheaters/modders in the Online portion of this game, usually performance is not usually affected its often that they could potentially break very features or crash the session, which then either kicks you out or you might have your game crash as a result.

As far as Story Mode only based single player performance yea that mostly comes down to not just the in-game visual settings but your overall PC settings as well and what you might have running in the background that could be tying up vital cpu/ram/disk usage based resources that could cause in-game performance based lagg, or even crashing.

Drivers and those settings can of course also play a role in all of that.

That's what the issue was, it was using the wrong GPU, when I logged in the game, it would use Nvidia, but as soon as I'd spawn in the world, the fps would drop to 8 or so... Despite Nvidia showing as the main cars everywhere I checked. Thanks

Yes the RDR2 in-game settings have some odd bugs still. For example in this particular game for whatever reason if you disable triple buffering it basically will run the game at 30 fps at all times regardless of any other setting changes. VSync is good to keep enabled also regardless of your OS GPU Control Panel settings because VSync in RDR2 is what helps keep most of the in-game animations and cut-scenes in proper sync, regardless of what your FPS happens to be.

Rockstar Games are also notorious when it comes to having screen tearing issues so you will definitely want to use a Display that has either GSync or FreeSync Premium. If you don't have this option then all I can suggest is over-ride the VSync in your OS, such as via NVIDIA Control Panel to be set to either Fast or Adaptive to help better combat screen tearing.

As far as the GPU issues yea I don't know what testing Rockstar Games actually did or why you can have a brand new Win10 or Win11 based PC, Desktop or Laptop and a game such as GTAV works perfectly fine and yet with RDR2 we as users are forced to do all sorts of check-list run-downs with our OS to ensure those settings better dictate how the game sees our hardware and thus runs overall. If anything it seems to me what Rockstar should have done was have RDR2 launch with a Settings Panel Launcher that allows the user to choose the Graphics settings and GPU + Display# before the full blown game actually launches. I think if they would have done it that way, most users wouldn't have such issues and have to seek help since the settings panel type of Launcher would be more obvious by allowing you to choose the GPU and such. Not just have the game magically load up at some odd ball screen res and picking the wrong GPU, all by default

Yo, I just want to say, you basically just solved my stutter issue! Thank you!

It was set to auto. Changing it as you said, and now, voila! :luv::steamhappy:

Also had to follow your other post about nvidia settings which helped majorly

Ok yes glad to help :cozybethesda:

Many are simply not aware this setting exists in Win10/11 since they haven't been forced to use it yet but it might be required to do for certain apps or games as having 2 GPUs hs become more of a common PC attribute nowa days.

Especially when it comes to Laptops. Now we are seeing more people getting newer AMD Ryzen 7xxx series based PCs and this is an issue for them sometimes as well since with AMD Ryzen 7xxx series, these all have an onboard GPU unlike previous generations of AMD CPUs which only a select few had them before and with those it was more obvious. Many of such users simply are not used to, where as most Intel CPU based Users have been used to almost always having that extra Intel GPU onboard their CPU since 2010 or so.
