Gang won't eat dog

The camp is hungry, although they refuse to eat dog? I'm trying to donate the dog to Pearson but the option to give the dog to him is not there. Other camp members says things such as "I'm not eating that." or "Are you gonna give us real food?"

In Walking Dead, there's a scene where everyone (mostly Americans) they meet a bunch of stray dogs and eat it

But that's some dumb fictional BS and it's end of the world stuff so that makes more sense. Why would it make sense in Red Dead when there is plenty of good game to be had.
