Rockstar needs to fix the graphics API settings
Ended up refunding the game because I couldn't get the game to work properly. With one setting (Vulkan I believe) the game won't go full screen properly no matter how you launch it. With the other setting (direct x12) it will go full screen but once you change a graphics setting in the main menu it will lag horribly to where it can take up to 5 minutes or more to exit the game or get back to the main menu. Not sure if there are any other issues but I was looking forward to playing this on pc instead of console.

with dx12, the stutter is there but if you enable triple buffering from display settings then async compute from the config file, it fixes the stutter completely but dx12 breaks certain effects. Vulkan works pretty much fine from the start but if you alt+tab the game will go to borderless from fullscreen.

No matter what I did with Vulkan I couldn't get it to take up the entire screen. Even if the game starts with fullscreen pre-selected it will only take up like 25% of my screen and just sit in the middle. Not sure what it is with Vulkan but I couldn't get it to work. I'll probably just wait until Rockstar patches the PC port even if it takes them a while

Rockstar won’t patch this game, certainly not SP or anything Vulcan related. My problem with Vulcan was getting in to run for more than a few hours without crashing tried every fix to no avail. Directx12 is a stuttery mess even on a 4090 I wouldn’t recommend. Rd2 was supposed llynbuilt from the ground up with vulkan but now rockstars main focus is gta 6 and trying to get through to their support is like trying to draw blood from a stone

Maybe there's a third party software on your PC that's conflicting with the game. I will soon have 400 hours in the game and it has been running without any major issues using Vulkan, since I bought the game a few years ago. I only had one instance where the game would crash to desktop every time in one cutscene, but that was fixed in a later GPU driver update.

I think the issue here is mainly with people who have upgraded their pc since Dec 2019.
If i booted up red dead on the pc i bought it on launch with im sure there wouldnt be much problems either.

I had a completely different PC when I bought the game and did my first playthrough ( Ryzen 2700, 16GB of RAM and RX 580 8GB ) and I just finished my second playthrough today on a Ryzen 5600, 32GB of RAM and RX 6600 XT, the only part that remained the same is the motherboard. So I don't think that newer hardware would be the issue.
