the game isn't actually launching through steam, it has to verify you own it, through rockstar launcher, so by having that open ahead of time, it SHOULD hopefully register you have the game as well.
This is usually means you may need to do the following...
Go to game folder; go to Properties for PlayRDR2.exe and RDR2.exe
Enable option for "Disable Full Screen Optimization"
And click OK to apply.
Click StartMenu or press Windows Logo Key > start typing Graphics
Go to Graphics Settings > click Browse > navigate to RDR2 game folder, add PlayRDR2.exe and RDR2.exe to that listing > change Options on both to High Performance GPU.
Run Steam and Rockstar Launcher via Run As Admin
Log into SocialClub and tick Remember Me.
Launch RDR2 from Launcher, not Steam.
It's fairly common for this game for Win10/11
Just do a repair maybe. But I doubt that's the issue if other games working fine.
Have you ever tried just Verify the game files? Everyone needs to do this after a game install and'or update. Course Steam usually does a verify on its own; but I've always done one manually just to be sure. This can easily fix missing and/or corrupted game files.
Just make a Folder on C Drive called Games; or whatever you wish...
Install ALL game clients there.
Like this:
C Drive > Games > Steam
C Drive > Games > Rockstar Launcher
Steam > Settings > Storage > Add D, E, F... Drives if you want as Steam Libraries so you have option to install games on other drives. However if you have a HDD, never set that as a default location, always use an SSD as a default location, always download games to SSD. If needed, after its all done, use the Move option in the Steam Game Library Properties for said game to move that game to another Drive Library Location.
Never install "clients or launchers" on Other Drives.
That is just dumb and can cause issues, it's well noted on Rockstar's help section.
The games however can be installed virtually anywhere.
Tried changing the system.xml to DX12, nothing, tried deleting the files under settings in documents, nothing, running in admin, nothing.
Only thing I could find was that in the launcher.log under Rockstar Games/Launcher in the documents folder says that the reason the game is exiting is 'Game exited with code 0xc0000005 (3221225477)', which appears to be a common problem that I can find no concrete fix for since it's supposed to be a RAM error but this only happens with RDR2 so wtf is going on.
Microsoft Defender has Core Isolation and Controlled Folders enabled by default and these really should be off because they interfere with many Games.
MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner, Fraps, BandiCam and similar apps are also known culprits that can prevent many games from ever loading up correctly.
Turning off Windows UAC may help as well; along with ensuring game clients are not in OS Startup; but are launched via Run As Admin after the OS loads up.
