Load up the game, start a new game so it creates the folder structure via the game again.
Then put the save file in the folder...
\\Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Profiles\YourID#
I know it works because I've tested saved games from other people, regardless of where the game is from cause none of how this works has anything to do with Steam.
\\Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Profiles\YourID#
First though look in there just to see if any are present.
Saved Game Slot Files start with SRDR and end with a ##
00-14 are Manual Save Slots
15 is the Auto Save slot
If any present, delete them. THEN put your old one back into there.
Then load up the game and click Start Story. It should load up your old saved game.
Perhaps that is an issue.
It's best to disable it for RDR2 in Steam.
Then use the Rockstar Launcher for Cloud Backup/Restore for RDR2 if you choose to use such an option at all.
