Fake country accent

No offense to the voice actor of Arthur, who is great, but can anyone else, esp those of us from the Midwest / South, pick up on Arthur's super fake country accent like I can? It sounds like he has his tongue wrapped up in the back of his mouth. I used to work with a guy from the city who would do the same thing, trying to sound country. Just saying. It's a super fake accent :)

Edit: Just looked and the guy is from the UK. I think it's actually kind of sad that Rockstar thought they could just mimic a country accent with a guy from the UK. Esp for the main character. I can 100% tell this is a person trying to sound like a country folk. All good. I don't mind :)

Roger Clark, the voice actor is actually from the U.S. and lived in Ireland until he went to the UK to study drama for college, before moving back to the US and lived in New York for awhile.

Duey crow, justified tv show... perfect accent, even fooled the crew at the audition...he is from Australia, you would never know. Not all fake accents are bad. a real texas accent, nobody better than Dolly Parton

y'all don't know southern, from southwestern, midwestern or western, let alone the hillbilly side in the east. especially year 1899 I have the most difficult time making out what hillbilly's from ginya are saying when they get going.

In 1899 it would be wide mix of people and accents. You have French folks living in Saint Dennis. You have Germans living in West Grizzlies... which is accurate with French in Louisiana and Germans in Illinois and Wisconsin and such.

I saw a group of people meeting outside the Church in Blckwater and I dynamite them as a means to quickly kill all and see what they have on them. One guy had a letter to his girlfriend who lives in Vermont. In the letter he's asking her to drop everything and just move out there with him. So overall you have some people who are trying to get away from Indians and Outlaws moving east while you have people from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York... moving out west. Some did because the job market in New York has too overwhelming and so they figure move out west and live in open country and get a job with the railroad or cole miners

I don't think it sounds fake. I've heard plenty of people who speak almost exactly like Arthur. For an Irish guy he manages to add that southern "twang" really well to his speech patterns, especially considering a lot of the dialog goes paired with performance capture, which makes things more difficult.

Not all midwestern and southern accents are that deep or exaggerated in my experience. It really varies per person, just like the dialects and their intensity of where I'm from.

Where I'm from you've got people speaking heavy dialect to the point that even I can't understand them, people speaking standard Dutch, and people like me, who are a little inbetween. I figure the same thing goes for the US.

It's not a Southern country accent, it's a Western country accent like you sometimes hear in Idaho or Montana. My grandparents were Ranch & Farm cowboys in Idaho & Eastern Washington and they spoke very much like Arthur does.
