Crime Mechanics are Awful in this game
I'm a new-ish player, and the other day I accidentally rode into someone and got a murder charge. I immediately got attacked by law enforcement so I decided to go down guns blazing and just pick back up at least autosave. That's how anyone would think it would work right?
Wrong. You lose a couple bucks, you have the insane bounty your racked up on the murder spree, you lose everything you had on your horse, you lose the horse you were taming, you lose your buffs.
You get quintuple punished, and to top it off the game autosaves when it hits you.
Godawful design.

I already finished my very 1st gameplay
and i would def recommend to switch off the auto-save and better do hardsaves instead

ofc youll get charges you're an Outlaw and everybody has guns too so better to watch out when ramming even by accident to someone (i've learned the hard way) and then dead and losing all of your progress as well.

PS, tip when doing some felonies use a mask that covers all over your face (not the bandit one) the one that looks like black plague mask

This is my favorite game ever made. I haven't played in a few years but I remember thinking the Pinkertons searching for you in the wild for something they have no idea that you did was stupid.

Even if an NPC did see me and run to town and report me what are they really going to be looking for? A white guy on a horse? That's literally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ everybody.

When you have killed somebody with your horse, then you might have been too fast or too clumsy - no pun intended, but a horse has about a thousand pounds, you can imagine what happens when bumping into a pedestrian.

To be careful, even as an outlaw, is mandatory ;-)
Riding is a bit of an art form in my humble opinion.. but once you've got the hang of it, you can do cool things in this game. Practise. Let people in front of you cross, wait until the path is clear.

Do not forget: some of those folks know about you being a very bad guy (people talk) and even the slightest miss-step can get you in trouble.

And don't forget: if something happens (and you have not killed somebody yet) you can always "defuse" the situation: on controller - as far as I remember now in the back of my brains - target the victim with LT for dialogue and then press 'X' to 'apologise', so they might forgive you.

Other than that is to take it like you would in real life: be aware of your surroundings!

Do not be frustrated: soon you will smoothe through everything. This game can be played way more relaxed than most people know, no need to hurry, take your time, enjoy!
no pun intended, ever ;-)

I got charged with "disturbing the peace" after telling people off when they walked past me and said hello, can't my man Arthur be grumpy once in awhile?? The crime system is so dumb sometimes.

Lmao all you have to do for disturbing the peace is look at the lawman and press the defuse button and leave the area without causing more issues.

Just save the game manually once and awhile.

A society where everyone is carrying guns, is a normally very polite society. Because if you decide to not be, they can also with bullets.
