Legendary Elk already dead.

Hi, so i'm hunting all legendary animals, and while searching for the legendary elk, i found the legendary wolf and killed him, took his pelt and went in the other spawn to find the elk, except he's already dead and have been skinned, missing pelt and hantlers.

Is this normal ? Some hunter killed it and took his skin ? Will it respawn and if so how many days does it take ? Also it dosen't appear dead on the map unlike the legendary wolf, with a black cross on it, so....

yes some one beat you to it
just jump servers or talk to the crazy lady for the mission for the elk
you can kill and skin the legendary from her missions

Yeah i forgot to mention it's on story mode, my bad.

sure you did not kill the elk and forgot about it. check the person that makes the clothing
only way for them to spawn is you do the dead eye looking for them

Yes i'm sure i haven't play that much, so i woudn't forgot about it and the area was unexplored before. 100% i didn't killed it.

Also i haven't activate any clue for the legendary elk, and when i was near no name showed up despit being very clearly a legendary animal (yellow footprint of the map) and it was clearly skinned like when the player does it.

Well the legendary elk showed up south west of the map, apparently the map of legendary animal is useless. Got the skin and hantlers.
