I can't get a panther to spawn - been trying with other guides for hours - no success so far
I know this is a pretty old topic. I am also familiar with the countless, already exsisting Threads about this. But none of them could really give me a satisfying, working answer.

So about my Problem:

Short version:
I don't find a panther at any point (now at least - before this problem didn't exist).

Long version:
I need a perfect panther pelt for the saddle, so naturally I go to the one place I always have found a panther before: the woods at Catfish Jacksons, the east side in particular.
But there, no panther is spawning. Not at any time - no matter how many in game days pass or what weather it is. I do some missions, come back, try again - nothing.
I never had the problem before and I was in need for a perfect panther pelt for something else earlier (can't remember) - went there, first try, no problem.
Now I am searching for hours and can't get any to spawn.
I of course already tried a save file at night at shady belle, went to the woods, looked out for a camp spawn and reloaded if it was there (because I heard that a camp spawn would block the panther spawn). Now here comes the funny part: there is ALWAYS a camp spawn. Like the game just won't allow a panther to spawn at that point.
Yes, I also tried getting one to the east of lake Lagras - still no luck.

What may be a factor and could be important (although I read that you can find a panther at any point in the game), I got my camp at Shady Belle - so I am in chapter 4.
Maybe it just doesn't work because the camp is to close to the panher spawn?
Idk anymore. But as I said - lake Lagras doesn't work too.

I appreciate anyone who took the time to read this and tries to help me.

the panther only spawns at this location, and perhaps about 100 feet southeast:

https://www.ign.com/wikis/red-dead-redemption-2/Panther_Location_and_Perfect_Pelt_Hunting_Guide

1. make a save when about a 10+ second ride (canter) away from spawn location

2. enter the woods at the intersection (moving west), move straight in until you get to a big tree, turn left (now south), and move about 20 ft, and then turn back towards road

panther should spawn another 30 ft to the south

3. rinse and repeat or reload, rinse and repeat

Panther does not spawn every time, or will spawn and become distracted chasing some other animal.

Another option is to use Predator Bait, but this works only 3 out of 4 times to get the Panther, so not a guarantee

Save scumming is the fastest way

...and note, that if you killed on already, you have to wait a few days for the zone to reset and a new panther to spawn (old one is dead)

Not accurate; it's one of three spawns in RD2 story, and there are several more in RDO.

The second most common panther-spawn is northeast of Lakay, Bayou Nwa, Lemoyne - in the wooded area, near where there's a particularly large tree. I've found both the 'Panther' and 'Florida Panther' there multiple times in both RD2 and RDO.

The last relatively common spawn is Stillwater Creek, west of Thieves Landing, New Austin. Unfortunately, you can't reliably access this area during RD2 until after Chapter 6.

Now, specifically in RDO, you'll likely find multiple poor 'Panther' specimens while hunting for the various legendary panthers. You'll also rarely find a Panther across Bayou Nwa, usually during a mission of some sort (possibly requiring that mission to be active) - for instance, I regularly find one at Macomb's End, but usually only when there's a bounty active in that specific area. I've also encountered one west of Hagen Orchards, likely while involved in something Moonshine-related when my shack is located near there.

I only saw one in +100 hours lmao that's wild, I was on my horse then it just ran toward me. Now I need one to study for the achievement that's painful :lookofdisapproval:

okay - not sure why i only use the one in my few thousand hours - probably a reliability or ease of use choice made a few years back - thanks for the correction, although i suspect only two of the three apply for now with this 100+ hr new player

unless he's doing online mode, at which point i confess my ignorance

Thanks you but sadly I already tried all this. It does literally nothing for me.

Theres a spawnpoint near pleasance, near the tree with the big snake in it. Make a trip along the road that goes to the ruined shacks with a dock. Go there at dawn/dusk.
Since its not a legendary animal it does not have a cooldown, just got to be in the right place at the right time.

sorry to hear that - have u verified your game files ? removed all mods ?
I constantly get panther spawns. But not sure if it's "allowed" apparently rockstar doesn't care but you can put a meta file in your game file to force a private lobby. Apparently people are doing that for legendary spawns.

Note that there is some RNG to most all spawns; no guarantee that it'll spawn the one or two times that you go there. I'd also suggest trying during the night - higher likelihood.

Not surprising, considering most modders can detect LA spawns across the whole map ... in-fact, just had Mud Runner stolen off me by a modder - super fun times!

Do you have mods installed? The engine refuses to spawn ambient NPCs and trains if you have mods installed (the game prioritizes your mods over spawns)
You'll notice that there are no passengers and guards present in the train
