So basically:
- Set ingame settings to your resolution on fullscreen, no vsync , no triple buffering, fsr 2 disabled, set rendering to DirectX12.
- OptiScaler installer batch file with options to rename to Optiscaler.asi, AMD card and Try to use dlss inputs.
- using Ultimate ASI Loader x64 as winmm.dll
- Installed Fakenvapi and Nukem's
- Set OptiScaler.ini to nofsr and fsr31 for directx 12.
- Open the game, it shouldn't crash now and DLSS should appear in your settings as an option, select prefered option: I chose ultra quality.
- Load the game and in-game press the Insert button, this doesn't always work for me so I changed the OptiScaler.ini file. If it works for you and you prefer it > Change the option from XeSS to FSR 31 via the menu. It should then show a quick glitch on the screen and the menu should report its running on FSR 4.0 (make sure its enabled in your AMD adrenalin).
- After closing the game AMD software asked me to use otimal settings > Make sure to don't do this, as it will enable FSR 2 and then the game will crash on launch again. If you accidentally did this like I did, you can change the game setting manually by editing the system.xml file in "...\Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings". Change to <fsr2Index value="0" /> which means it's disabled.
- The game really likes to change the graphic settings on restart, I had to check again that my game settings where set to full screen borderless again, else it doesn't work.
I could run the game at everything on ultra settings in 4k, with DLSS on ultra quality (so that's upscaling from 2953x1661 to 4k) with around 75-90 fps. That's an increase of about 20 fps when running the game on native. When using DLSS on Quality it was around 90-105 FPS, but I saw some (very) minor artifacting which I found annoying.
Hope this helps someone else!
It is only like this because the vast majority of us allow it.
