Dead eye in RDO

I'm new to RDR on pc. My dead eye isnt marking npc or animals. why is that. even manual marking doesnt work.

Dead Eye in RDO is kinda crap, at least when compared to the capabilities of RDR2 - there's no 'bullet time' due to multiplayer, and there's limited functionality mostly surrounding whichever ability card you've chosen. So, you have 4 ability card slots, one of which is specifically in regards to dead-eye, of which you have 6 cards to choose from, each providing a specific benefit when dead eye is activated. The card you'd likely be interested in is 'Paint it Black', which allows you to auto-target enemies (and most animals) by scrolling over them - comparable to the initial functionality of RDR2's dead eye.
