struggling with this game
i started RDR2 tonight and already encountered multiple bugs:

my horse will randomly stop following the npc and just run in a random direction

in the first train robbery mission you are supposed to help lenny up at the edge of the train, game doesn't register my input and i fail the mission

if i restart from checkpoint after failing said mission i instantly die on the tracks

in the next mission (where your carriage wheel breaks after crossing the water stream) after fixing the wheel the game doesn't register my inputs, i just sit in the carriage unable to do anything

lots of objects in close proximity pop in (trees, rocks and so on) and i have some noisy artifacts in some scenes

i finished RDR1 with zero bugs, is this game known to be buggy or is it just me?

I had some bugs, but not the ones you mention. My game would just crash to desktop. I ended up running a year old Nvidia driver to get through it. That was a year ago or more, ive lost track. So that driver is really old now. It did not crash very much after I did that.

Have you tried changing your input mode? Use a controller instead of keyboard/mouse or vice versus.

All the money and skills went into making the characters of this game to sound and look great. And it took them 5 years. The actors developed such bonds due to the time and money spent on the characters that the actors go on tour giving talks nonstop because that's the only real part of the game worth bragging about. As for the actual game play.. Do you see the Devs doing tours? Much of the game's mechanics are so poor that you know where the money mostly went and it wasn't game play. It's not only buggy in some parts you'll find parts of the game is just unplayable. Some quests you will die first try, nothing will change that, you will die. There's no sense to it .. You'll often see that the Dev's mind set was, "Close enough is good enough!" ..If you think single player is bad, just don't try online!. Online plays like it's an after thought and the Devs were forced into making it and so were angry. You'd swear some of the online game were to make players pay for the Dev's anger. Every online quests is the same, you get over run by too many enemies, most head shots do little except maybe shoot off the enemy's hat, and some quests you fail allow you the option to restart or start at some (damn, I forgot the word) some game saved spot, but you just used up most, it not all, your bullets, potions, and you can't continue. Oh, and often that saved spot isn't a saved spot, it means at the start of the shooting. Start usually mean at where you got the quest with all the pointless chit chat. There's quests that if you fail then tough, you failed, you lost, it's done, it's over so any money invested in that quests is gone. Online will get you rage quitting daily, or make you invent new swear words.

totally forgot about GPU drivers, i'll check that out thanks.

regarding the random directions my horse is running in, my workaround is to get off and on the horse, after that it seems to work properly

i'll try again tonight, maybe a restart solved most issues

I would try some of the basics like changing inputs, re verifying game files or reinstalling drivers. I have never encountered any bugs like this and can count on one hand the crashes I have had in over 300 hours. And this is across 3 different GPUs and 2 CPUs.

Back in 2023 when I played it , it ran like hell on my I9 and rtx 3080ti. Crashed a lot. Ive got 64 GB RAM too. For me, running a year old + GPU driver helped tremendously. There was a driver # that worked well. It still crashed some though.
