the funds you have for camp are for you to spend on upgrading the camp, and refilling the stocks.
the rest of the moneh goes into a chest that you can never retrieve truthfully, and you only get what's left of it after actually beating the epilogue.
furthermore; the camp funds don't even come from missions and such that pay into the savings, they are entirely sourced from the donations box, and you can see this in the ledgers first pages.
You get way too much money in no time. There is literally no need to do side stuff or whatever. Balance is off
My argument is that the gang believes they don't yet have the money they need to flee to their imagined paradise, so you're stuck with them in a camp in the middle of a swamp or whatever, with this fake premise that the gang is being hunted by both the Pinkerton agents and the O'Driscolls. You have to ride that out. The game just kind of keeps Arthur at a level where it wouldn't be more logical for him to say, "Sho, Dutch, but how 'bout I just pay for everyone's passage and we jist git up on outta here?"
