Trying to change the email linked to my Rockstar account
In December 2021 I bought RDR2 when it was on sale at -60% or so of the retail price on Steam even though my PC was inadequate to run it. It sat in my Steam library until a while later funds allowed me to acquire a more powerful PC during 2022. In the interim I also changed my email address. The old, now defunct and INACCESSIBLE email address that is linked to my Rockstar account and other Rockstar games I have is the one that Rockstar are contacting for verification when I follow the installation process for RDR2. Obviously I cannot verify anything via an inaccessible email address. So I contacted Rockstar technical help to bring my contact info up to date. I provided all the screenshots, as requested, to show RDR2 sitting in my Steam library, plus proof of purchase. And then...NOTHING! Rockstar have gone dark. I have sent numerous emails to re-establish communications but they have all been ignored. I'm at a loss to know what to do. Steam have said more or less that it's not their problem and I need to keep bashing my head against the brick wall I'm now up against. Has anyone else had this sort of problem or any ideas how to move forward.
Incidentally I had no problem with Ubisoft. Updating my Ubisoft account contact info was a tortuous and thorough process but ultimately successful. This makes it doubly hard to figure out why Rockstar will not allow me to access my games. They have my money and I have zilch!

I'm in the same boat. Started a discussion about this as well. Perhaps if there are more people with this sort of issue. We might get something going and post evidence on Reddit. Just a suggestion.

EDIT; I've contacted EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Sony PSN, Bethesda and many other services. They've all been helpful and could recover my stuff. Just Rockstar is being the most egregious of them all.

2 weeks after first message to support. Nothing changed.

Yep, I think this a really important issue that affects every Rockstar customer on the planet. Everyone risks losing their games if they uninstall and for one reason or another change their email address. They can never re-install and replay games they already own or buy a new one from Rockstar because they won't get to play it while the verification process goes to an inaccessible email address.
I haven't looked into it yet but there has to be some sort of consumer law issue here depending, I guess, on where you live. But I'm pretty sure markets don't work like this anywhere - where someone takes your money and gives nothing in return. Well, there IS a word for that!

Someone at Rockstar gave me a tip to just write them directly without a support ticket. But you have to provide a lot of information, that you may not have at your disposal anymore... I was lucky that I archived all of my emails, so things like; When did I link my Steam account, time and date when I created my social club account, original user name etc.

With the help of that they were able to recover my account and send me on my way. But it's going to be a long journey. It's possible though. But, you have to be patient and willing to cooperate.

In my opinion, the fault lies within their own launcher. It would've saved them and us a lot of trouble if they didn't go through with this decision to include a third party account to play their games on a platform like Steam. Don't get me started on as to why we're not able to play in offline mode either...

It does feel like it's going to be a long journey. Out of the blue they suddenly contacted me a couple of days ago - with apologies for the delay! - and requested yet more screenshots of my Steam account which clearly show that I own the game. I feel as if I'm just going round in circles but of course I gave them all they wanted. And now it's gone quiet again. Maybe in the long term this will resolve itself but it's all leaving a very bad taste in my mouth and you could say I don't feel as warm towards the company as I once might have done! It really shouldn't have to be this hard. If I ever get there I'll post the news.
