Bathing in the streams
How deep does the water have to be to clean my horse? Ankle deep? Knee deep? Up to the neck?

Does this also clean Arthur? Can I just run him through water the same way?

Your horse will never get very clean in the river - and neither will Arthur.

Your horse needs that Brush you get at the Stable with Hosea - and there's no other way to get it, my friend. You MUST buy a horse, get the brush, then sell the horse it if you want, but you need the brush.

You take a bath at a Hotel.
and you carry clean clothes in your saddlebag.

See those white feet on 'Bowah'?
When they get dirty - Bowah gets a brush - then a treat - then a pat:

You'd be surprised how easy it is to get your horse dirty and how easy it is to brush it.

Arthur will get cleaner by swimming in a river, lake or pond, as will your horse.

"Swimming" in water works the better than walking (wading) in water, but is still less effective than bathing in a tub for Arthur, or brushing for a horse.

If you swim Arthur, you will actually see a blood trail behind him as he becomes cleaner.

There are sections of the river deep enough to swim the horse - and the initial plunge into the river, when the horse drops below the surface, will also clean the rider (blood trail can be seen).

So, dipping in a river, lake or pond is good for a quick option, and works well before the Stable is unlocked - but a true bath is pretty cheap, and seems far more relaxing.

...and a bath also restores your Stamina - and in the beginning actually improves your stamina stat.

The horse LOVES the Brush. And it'll love you for brushing it.
Like my cats.
If I go get the brush - I'm very popular...lol

Brushing the horse gives a nice big Bonding Boost as well... handy when your bonding to brush, feed and pat often as well as hitch - all those things boost the bonding procedure. Do all that often and bonding will be over a lot sooner.

OP was asking about streams and rivers

I was suggesting the best place to bathe is in a tub.

After you brushed your horse outside when you hitched it up - or in Bowah's case he was first in line and got the Dee-Lux...lol

For me - it's part of my game to plan a day or two, that ends with a bath and very likely a good sleep at a Hotel with a hot meal. It's part of the game for cryin' out loud. The game isn't a race from one end to the other. There are things in it you're meant to enjoy along the way.

I just brush my horse and switch my outfit on my horse usually. Bathing is for sissies just like in RL.

You ever read something and hope it's a joke? Just reeeeeeally hope?

In any event, I've made my Arthur swim, and he still looked disgusting after. I like the stamina boost you get from a bath, plus, people seem less suspicious of Arthur when he's not covered in mud and ♥♥♥♥.

I knew I saw you on Family Guy - and it's nice what you do for Bullfrogs on Vacation:

For me a lot of brushing does not seem to get rid of the dirty hoof thing the red hoof thing that does not go away - seems I have to find water to splash around in with the hourse... I brush about 4 to 6 times in a row and it does not go away ....

That's odd - I'm always thinking:
There's no way I can clean this big horse with one little brush so quickly... but there he is.. spotless.

Wait a little and see if it gets cleaner - maybe the animation has lag...??

I don't bother with all that bathing nonsense. My Arthur is so dirty stinking and rotten that even the flies won't touch him. I can almost smell him from here.

My Arthur is tired of smelling like his horse.
The first thing he does is clean himself up a little - some say I take that to nonsense level:

But we're both as fresh as daisies...lol
