How do I uninstall a mod without having a previous save backup?
I made the foolish mistake of not backing up my files before downloading an outfit changing mod, but now I'm interested in playing Red Dead Online and I need to remove the mod. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but the mod remains and I don't know how to remove it entirely. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Uninstall.

Delete every folder and file associated with the game.

If you 'uninstall' folders with non-game files left in them will remain.
Delete them - and you'll get a fresh install.

The file you should have backed up is the one "Lenny" replaced - and that's why you don't use Mods that alter game files.

One trick is to get a picture (print screen or whatnot) of your RDR2 file before adding any mods and hooks etc, then you will know what the file is supposed to look like, and can just delete the extras later (because there are a few with just very basic names).

Obviously this wont help post installing and you might be better off just deleting the file after uninstalling, if you can't remember and/or track down all of the files to remove.

Just to be clear to any readers, we are of course talking about single player mods, online cheaters are the worst and are why I am still not even playing online mode at all.

While you are right about the deleting procedure, the poster would have had the same issue with just a basic script mod too.

Also that isn't how LML works exactly, LML creates independent folders which contain overwrites, and is just as simple to delete. The effect on your save files will vary depending on what mods you use of course, but it can be just as easily removed.

No files are edited in installation and removal, only when the handlers fire during play. I understand your concerns about it, I had them too originally, but LML is fine.

Perhaps - I've heard things... I don't use 'Lenny' mods - or any that alter existing game files.

Anywho:
What I do is make a folder on the root of the drive the game is on, then 'copy' all the mod files and folders (if any) there. That way I can see what has to go in - or out - no guesswork. Identify and delete all the stuff in the game directory - or copy all the stuff out of holding folder to the game folder.

I can go Story or Online in seconds.

Completely deleting the folder within Steam and uninstalling the Rockstar launcher did the trick, many thanks to both of you.
