Hosea's trade for Thoroughbred (SPOILERS FOR HOSEA)
I can't sell the Thoroughbred that Hosea provided me with. When can I get rid of it? My trainer gives me the Turkoman, so I don't need it.

So let me elaborate a little more:

When I went to the stable with Hosea, I selected a Thoroughbred with a price tag of "free" that was a little better than the Shire. Apparently, it was an even trade for my Shire.

But now I can't sell this horse. The "Sell" option is grayed out.

Oh, I didn't even know I had a pre-order horse!? Apparently, I have the Dappled Black Thoroughbred. I wonder why...? I didn't buy the game until last summer or fall and I didn't mod when I first started playing.

Yea, you can't sell it, but you can stable it and buy another.

in my opinion, it's one of the best horses in the game . . . fast, and once you bond fully with it it's almost bomb-proof. It stays put without spooking a lot longer than the other breeds . . . seems arabians are worst for spooking, just like the ones I've had irl ;)

I've been able to pull a weapon and target/kill cougars/grizzlies/panthers without it spooking and tossing me.

Yeah I got the free thoroughbred as well. But you know what, I'm still using the Shire. Love him to bits, called him Tiny.

The thoroughbred is not a pre-order bonus. It's a perk of the special and ultimate editions of RDR2.

When your stable is full and you bring a new horse in it will let you sell it to make room for the new horse.

Thanks Clancy,
As in real life, I have found that my Thoroughbred can do ANYTHING I ask of him, he doesn't spook, he's very loyal, he's beautiful, he's damned fast, and so far he's about indestructible fully bonded. I am going to get another for wagon.

Ah! Thanks for the clarification!

Thank you! At least I have the option of selling it if I want to.

This. My intro to the Arabians was the Black Arabian from chapter 4 and the skittishness was one of the first things that I noticed about it. Honest reviews rate the Arabian horses as the "worst of the best." And the White Arabian is the worst Arabian. The Turkoman had the best reviews for "balanced" min-maxing, although I was surprised with how skittish a half war horse is in the game.

All about "the best", nothing about the love, game and all.

Maybe I wasn't bonded enough (level 3, I think,) but my Turkoman threw me off when a bear approached and ran off. Even now, at level 4, it still shies away from snakes. I'm not complaining, it's just what I've noticed.

Americans are very competitive. But only with petty and meaningless things. Like driving in normal traffic, for instance. Or min/maxing a game. But yes, I enjoy the game immensely.

I'm confused about the horse bravery, to be honest. I've read conflicting things, from that it simply doesn't exist at all in the code and all horse personalities are the same, or it is random and based on the individual horse, or it's real but only relevant until a certain bonding level, or, finally, that it's real and is indeed dependent on horse breed like the compendium implies.

I feel as though the Hungarian Halfbred warhorse I have doesn't spook as much at predators as the Thoroughbred, but that could be my own bias, or I could just be hitting the Calm button extra precisely on that horse. Not sure.

Anyway, for my part, in storymode I'm very attached to a plain little wild bay mustang with distinctly average stats. Sometimes you gotta remember the rp in the rpg, I think.

Well said.

Hmmm... Well the only sound my horse makes when I ride is panting because I'm driving it at full speed nonstop with unlimited horse stamina turned on. Or I skip the wilderness entirely by teleporting to a marker. In fact, now that I think about it, I never really venture into the wilderness unless I'm bonding.

But yeah, selling the Thoroughbred by filling up the stable to overflowing sounds like a good workaround. I thought it was some kind of glitch. In fact, I'll trying selling the Shire without trading it for the Thoroughbred this time.

Yeah, you're right. It's good to have the option to sell the Thoroughbred if I want.

It is interesting that the devs included different audio signals like that! I play slow, for the most part (I've played 30+ hrs and I'm still puttering about in chapter 2), so I'll have to be on the lookout for that.

Britt_williams, I had a similar issue when I did the Hosea bear quest. For me, it wouldn't let me exit the Valentine stable until I purchased the palomino Morgan, even though I didn't sell the Shire. I'm glad the full-stable workaround worked for you, though! Anyway, I'll make my own horse-talk thread sometime so I quit derailing yours.
