could someone pls explain how the frikin fishing works. I spent 3 hours with no progress. I like the game a lot but this is the worst thing the devs could come up with

You use certain types of bait or lure depending on the fish you want, cast the line, then slowly reel it back until a fish gets hooked on. Then you wait a second while it fights. When its thrashing around, try and pull your rod the opposite direction it is moving to prevent it from going that way too far. When they stop, continue reeling and press R to do it faster. Repeat through multiple phases of thrashing depending on the size of the fish. Some fish, particularly the legendaries, only appear in certain weather and times of day.

This seems to be bugged on PC. I'm trying to get through the mission with Jack and it's not working. I can bait the hook and "hold right-mouse-button to grab," but when I "hold left-mouse-button to pull rod back," nothing happens.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes I have. Fishing or the the game using the M&K controls are a pain in the ass period. Rock Star needs to get their ♥♥♥♥ together for PC controls. The game is a mess. You can't double map buttons in the same tier and you need to. The fact that everything you do requires 2 or more buttons sucks. Sorry about the rant but try not to cast too far out it will be easier to reel the fish in. The fish will fight every so often so just be careful reeling. When it fights slow down the reel and move the mouse side to side to ease the struggle. It's gonna be a pain in the ass because you'll have to use 3 buttons at the same time while holding the interact button but a little practice and you'll get it

You don't use lmb to pull back. You slide mouse backwards and forwards to drag fish in while you reel (very helpful with big fish. it helps to up your DPI if your mouse has ability). Left mouse button is ONLY used when you throw the hook/bait into water.

Hold rmb ALL THE TIME. Then reel in with space. By tapping R and F you increase/decrease reeling speed. When big fish struggles release space. You can push space to stop the line from rolling out (it's risky to over do this on big fishes) and you can use shift to let some line loose. And don't forget that pulling back thing, slide mouse forwards/backwards whenever fish is not struggling.

Notes:
If you can't cast - you're standing in water too deep (and for some reason can't read the warning about that - that is flashing like a Neon Sign).

Once the fish is hooked, you no longer need to hold RMB

Beginners usually attempt to hook Trident Class Nuclear Submarines as far as one can cast. This results in a battle that can go on for Days and produces the same ONE piece of fish that an 11 ounce Perch produces.

Catching a large fish is necessary at times (Legendaries/Challenges), but cast on top of one of those River Logs that's swimming at your feet, not 500 Yards from shore.

While holding the Rod - activate Eagle Eye (Dead Eye - without Aiming) - all the little (and Giant) fish glow and pulsate, making them almost impossible to miss.

Tapping the LMB slightly will result in a 'short cast', or aiming at a rock that is surrounded by Sockeye/Steelhead (worth $5.35 EACH in St. Denis) will put the lure here:

(basically, it's One Crank, One Lift of the Rod Tip and a valuable fish goes in the bag at a rate of about 1 a minute - there are HUNDREDS of these locations spread across the map - I know where every single one of them is - some so narrow you can step over)

i'm on keyboard and mouse and i have no problem fishing , and i find it relaxing too
