Am I missing something here?
honestly playing the game with high bounty is way more fun. Being followed by bounty hunters is immersive.
Another thing is that if you have a bounty in a specific state, you can just leave this state and after like in game week, or two, that bounty will disappear.
No, from my experience, bounties Do Not disappear.
Do not believe anyone who hasn't tested it for themselves.
Mild Spoiler:
I just played through the whole game, never paying a bounty, and i always had the Bounty in Strawberry from Breaking out Micah in Chapter 2, and all other bounties were still in place when Chapter 6 ended.
It is (obviously) very possible to play through the game without ever clearing a bounty -bounty hunters do show up every in-game day or two, but once they start shooting, just kill them all, and no pedestrians, and there's be no additional bounty.
Bounties do not interfere with Quests, and Bounty Hunters only show up when you are alone and in the wilderness - never at camp and never in Town.
well ive beaten the game already im on my 2nd playthrough i just wanted to know how to rob stuff and profit. thanks for the tips
i understand - but i didn't want you to be mislead (about bounties going away).
i agree with the original post, Crime is worthless - there are many gripe pages about the very unfair Bounty System, the Omniscience of all NPCs (it was Arthur Morgan - even with a completely new outfit, a new horse And a Mask)
But, it is true that you can kill all witnesses and even sometimes convince them to say nothing - unless you are in a town - i've tried that and it never ends (there is apparently a forever supply of lawmen somewhere).
It is unfortunate that crime is worthless, since that is sort of one of the main premises of the game - and while you can mostly ignore bounties under $200 - i did notice that higher bounties spawned more Bounty Hunters, and there is a rumor that eventually Town citizens will begin to refuse doing business with you, (and perhaps even recognize you and call the law ? - only a rumor).
Have fun - post anything you prove :)
