Verify Game Files - We just got a big update and if updates aren't automatic...
you need one.

If you are updated:
Try a new game - not from an old save.

Also switch from Vulcan to DX12 - or go the other way.
Whatever it is - make it the other.

Uninstall.
Manually delete all files and folders left for RDR2. There are multiple places.
Uninstall Rockstar Launcher.
Reinstall Game in Steam.
Give Steam, RDR2 a clean pass through your firewall.
Give Steam, RDR2 a clean pass through your virus protection.

Are you logged in here - is that your guy?:

Make sure Steam is a linked account:

All good? If so - continue...

Start game from Steam.
Launcher should install, update and log you in.

Play game.

JuiceWSA's advice is good. You may be able to get away with just reinstalling the Rockstar Game Launcher (which is what worked for me).

In windows, click in the search box in your task bar.
Type "remove". Select "Add or Remove Programs"
Search the list for "rockstar"
Click on Rockstar Games Launcher. Click Uninstall.
Click through the wizard to uninstall the launcher.
Open your Steam desktop
Find the RDR2 listing in your library, click Play button.

Steam will reinstall the launcher and it should automatically log you in and start the game.

Funny, the comment about "Make sure you linked accounts" - There is no longer an option to link your Steam account with Rockstar at the link above, maybe this is the underlying issue. I too have been playing the game for awhile, just restored from a Steam backup, it updated and now I just get the preparing to launch flash and close. I should also note that my existing Rockstar account was gone apparently. I could not reset password, said send me reset instructions to known email account used, instructions never arrived and I had to create a new account but never was given an option to link that to my steam RDR2 game.

RSSC accounts dont disappear ever, neither do steam accounts, you can get banned for nefarious acts, but accounts dont ever disappear, they are your accounts and it is your responsibility to maintain them
