Small help with modding.
I'm trying to play RDR2 modded.

I managed to install Lenny's Mod Loader, got all the extra files and everything.

I downloaded a simple mod that changes all the letters in the game to A to test if LML was working (https://www.rdr2mods.com/downloads/rdr2/other/301-rdr2-but-with-as/) and everything was working fine.

The thing is, this mod and some others can be installed just by clicking on the "Download with Mod Manager" link.

Other mods like Lenny's Simple Trainer cannot be installed that way, and need to be manually installed.

In Lenny's Simple Trainer case instructions say that I need to extract the contents of the zip to the root folder of the game. But I was following a guide that said that all the mods that need to be manually installed to the root folder need to be extracted to the lml folder if I'm using Lenny's Mod Loader.

So where should I put those files?

All files and folders in the root folder where RDR2.exe is even if I'm using the mod loader?

All files in the root folder, and the "LennysSimpleTrainer" folder in the lml folder?

Or should I just dump all files and new folders in the lml folder?

Thanks in advance guys!

Lenny now has about a thousand people unable to play the game after the recent update.

Just say NO to Lenny.

I run some mods.
None of them are Lenny's

Thanks for the heads up!

Is it the trainer or the mod loader giving issues?

If it's the trainer I just used it as an exemple. But I still don't know where I should put the files if I'm using LML and installing any other mods manually.

Not sure - never used it. The bug list was frightening to be honest.

I use these - they do NOT alter any game files - and are Dead Easy to remove for Online - or Updates:

Native Trainer Reskinned:
https://www.rdr2mod.com/native-trainer-reskinned-and-arrow-keys/
(works just as well as the standard Native Trainer - with LeMat, arrow keys and easier on eyeballs - mine, at least)

Dead Eye Master:
https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/232
(got tired of playing around with R*'s Auto Mark Level One Nightmare - and being eaten by alpha predators I could only manage to shoot in the foot - defaults to Max Level 4 - User can define different actions)

Automatic Greet Replies:
https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/452
("Hello, Mister" - and I'll not crash my horse into you while I speak to you, K?)

More Persistent Weather:
https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/810
(I like rain that lasts longer than 2 minutes)

Disable Out of Bounds Snipers:
https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/877
(New Austin is a crap hole - but seeing just how much is easier when you're not having your head blown off - Tame the Blackwater Pinkertons with 'Never Wanted' in the Trainer).

No game files altered.
Latest Script hook deployed.

I put all 13 mod files in a folder on another drive - so I know EXACTLY what's in there.
I delete all those files for Online - or updates - and move them back in for Modded Story:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2801250795

I can Mod - or go Vanilla in seconds.

Here is the very latest script hook - and the page you bookmark for when it gets updated - after a game update (Alex lives in Ukraine - so... yea... could take a while, ya know, unless the war ends - it's good for now):

I have the latest script hook installed, but all the other stuff you posted is very informative.

Thanks!

Put lennys mod loader, scripthook and asi loader in where your game is installed.

lml is where lennys mod loader loads mods from so you put lml mods there.

asi mods in game folder

Lenny's Simple Trainer does not require Lenny's Mod Loader. All of the files in the Lenny's Trainer zip go directly in the game's directory where the RDR2.exe is, not the LML folder. LML is used for specific mods only, and the individual mod pages should state whether or not LML is required. It sounds like the tutorial you followed may have been misleading.

If you have more questions feel free to ask, I've been using LML and other mods by the same author for months.

EDIT: Important side note, if you're going to use Lenny's Simple Trainer, make sure to replace the ''version.dll'' file that comes with it with the one found in the most recent Asi Loader version here: https://www.rdr2mods.com/downloads/rdr2/tools/9-rdr-2-asi-loader/. The one that comes with the trainer itself is currently outdated due to a recent game update.

I have tried using Lenny's Mod Loader, before and after the update.
The mods that I had downloaded required them to be in their own sub folder in the lml folder.
Have never gotten any of these mods to work.
Keep getting the following error in the asiloader.log file;

"vfs.asi" failed to load

I have been sticking to just the mods that requires ScriptHookRDR2 and the included
asi loader dinput8.dll

Which LML mods were you trying to use? The Mod Loader works fine for me after updating it to the most recent version. The RDR2 Asi Loader has also been updated since the game patch.
