The Intro Sucks
Heard a lot of good things about this game in the past and finaly purchased it

but man at least the first hour (or so) was nearly all disappointment
tons of cutszenes ...
trapped inside of to much snow in every direction (that just does not spark joy)
horse-riding ...that is literary cutscene with less scene and more waiting

finding the house and ...gues what more waiting ...then a short spark of something exciting
followed by their absolute failure of a lootingmechanic ...they made looting unfun ...how...
and even dared to mock me for spending time looting ("hei player are you done yet")

then i was allowed one choice ...i liked that choice but ...what followed was some random "btw the house is now gone because we did not bothered to stop it ..."

followed by even more horse-riding ...followed by horse riding ... the check out interesting thing demounts you and the npc instantly mocks you for it...followed by a short amount of shooting with honestly the most DnD-wolfs ever ...randomly attacking running horses while leaving the cadaver completly fine behind

...i really hope this game gets better because up to now thats just sad

Chapter 1 is 'the tutorial'.

You should be:
Learning how to do things
Sprinting everywhere - to build your stamina so you can pull the bow string - 'cause right now that's your most effective weapon.

I enjoy Chapter 1. It means I've got about 600 hours of Epic Game in front of me. I savor every moment.

Yes, as "Prologues" go, RDR2 Story-Mode (SP) Chapter 1 is rather lame.

The control wheel is pretty horrible for KYBD/MS (nevermind the contextual controls), and learning the bow, etc was somewhat necessary, but i got the distinct feeling that the Prologue was more for the Developers than for the player.

Fortunately, though, Chapter 2 is pretty much a "Pause the Game and Explore the World" chapter.

And that's one of the details i really like about the game design - simply walk away from the Main Quests and they will wait - literally forever.

Just don't start a Main Quest item unless you plan on finishing it...
But all the Main Quest parts have the same flavor:
The quest of takes over your game, makes you follow along in a pre-set story, gives you no actual choices, gets you stuck a few times becuz the controls suck so bad, and then your done with little reward (sometimes followed by some bugged out dialogue back in camp).

The Story writing and Voice Acting are mediocre. The controls are terrible.

But the open world aspects of the game a really good.

imo you should play through chapter 2, and then decide if the game is for you. Chapter 1 is a tutorial, and tutorials are always kinda lame.

Oo one poster before said chapter 1 is 600 hours
playing a game for 600 hours before it gets good is a rather tall ask

(and tutorials are not there to be lame...they are there to engage the player with the mechanics)

..the promise of a bow ...makes me want to continue..i like bows, they are awesome

I almost quit this game because the controls were so bad. I decided to keep playing and it is my favorite game of all time. Not everyone loves it though, but I recommend giving it a chance.

Better read that again - you really missed it.

600 hours to get to the credits on the other end of this Epic Game.
Chapter 1 is the kickoff. Love it.

I already capitulated and have built muscle memory for the controls and all new bindings - it took a while - the game was worth it.

2000hrs - 3.5 playthroughs - still going.

LOL Chapter 1 is not 600 hours, it just might feel like it. It takes maybe an hour. I actually liked Chapter 1, but I also like slow plot-based RPGs.

The keyboard controls on this game are ASS, though. Especially because storymode will automatically change your loadout sometimes. The bow is nice, though. The stealth kills are pretty cool. I find entering deadeye with a bow in keyboard a pain in the ass, though, and imo it's easiest if you remap deadeye to something other than middle button.

Ah - yes - i agree. Prologues should not be used to judge the game.

It did - what's the problem?

You must need more Jonah and Less Arthur:

Sorry - no horse mounted Gatling guns - at least not in Vanilla...lol

I don't think you appreciate this game at all. I was in sold in the first chapter. I love the snow and the slow pace, it's so atmospheric and immersive. One of the best games ever made, from start to finish, to me at least.

The story line is all I'll play. Just got done with my 3rd time through it and finding different stuff every time. Same story but gets better in my opinion every time through it. I laugh out loud at parts and even cried. No spoiler here why. But 3 times played through 200 hrs each time average. Already wanting to start a new game on it. Arthur is the best character hands down.
