What do you do with carcasses after killing animals?
Seems like a waste of time to kill an animal then get carcass and sell it immediatly afterwards

You get the prime cuts of the meat in your satchel, but you can sell an entire carcass.

I normally harvest the pelt and the prime cuts and leave the carcass. If I'm still feeding the camp, I'll take a 3 star animal back to Pearson stacked on top of a load of 3 star pelts and give him the entire carcass with that pelt attached - then sell all the single pelts somewhere else. An entire animal lasts longer at camp I feel. Maybe it's just me. I keep 'em well fed.

Generally I keep Big Game - the super food - and give Pearson the rest, or sell it if camp stores are in good shape. I'll keep a few Game meats to offset tobacco use, but that's about it.

After I skin an animal it says I can't get all of the parts cause I got no room for them. Which section of my satchel is the one that carries those stuff?

Well, that little annoying message never goes away apparently. I've got the most magnum satchel I can get and I see that message all the time. Upgrade your satchel completely and try to ignore that message.

I'd like more responses from other people. You guys just leave the carcass after skinning it?

I do - unless I carry one to camp to give to Pearson.

Skinning an animal results in:
Grizzly/Black Bear - 5 Big Game Meats, a Claw and a Large Pelt.
Deer - 4 Mature Venison Meats and a medium Pelt that can be stacked with other Mediums.
Buck - 4 Mature Venison Meats, Antlers and a medium pelt.
Elk - 5 Big Game Meats, Antlers and a large pelt.
Bison - 5 Prime Beef Meats (still not as good as Big Game), a horn and a large pelt.
Pigs - 4 Tender Pork Loins, a tusk and medium pelt.
Gators - Large - 5 Big Game Meats, 2 teeth and large pelt.
Gators - Small - a couple of Big Game Meats, 2 teeth and a medium pelt (that can get stuck on horse).
etc, etc.

You can carry 1 large pelt or 1 Buck, Deer, Pronghorn, Ram, Sheep, Goat, etc carcass.
You can stack a carcass or a large pelt on top of medium pelts.
You can carry at least 10 medium pelts - I think I've had 15, but I've never run out of space.

Ingredients Satchel lets you carry 99 Meats of each varying type.
Provisions Satchel lets you carry 99 edible items - like cooked/Seasoned Meats of
each type. <--- you can't sell or donate cooked meats.

You can, with a fully upgraded satchel, make one pass through the Bayou, stick an improved arrow through every 'Poor' Gator you see, throw down the pelts that aren't worth anything and come out of there with 99 Big Game Meats - easily - and often.

Don't feel bad - when you come back those same gators will have respawned right on top of their rotting carcasses - but they may be 3 star gators this time...lol

Basically you can't feed the camp - or make any money - carrying a single animal. one at a time to a place of deposit - be it Pearson or Butcher or Trapper. You have to load the truck and the truck is that satchel.

Upgrade it. All the way.

Unless you want to either sell the carcass at a butcher/trapper, or donate it to Pearson at the camp, there's no point in taking it . . .you already get all you need in meat/pelt/horns skinning it, otherwise it just takes up needless space on your horse.

The one exception for me are the legendary animals, those are always worth a good amount of cash, so I always take those . . .

By the way, tame a second horse and always take both hunting with you . . .twice the space for pelts/carcasses = half the trips ;)

the carcasses of the animals can be sold by butchers or by the ember who eats furs
Twitchey Dec 19, 2021 @ 7:31pm
It depends really, when I just start hunting and I need to gather a lot of pelts early on then no, but if it is just a random buck in good condition then I will. After you skin them they aren't worth much, but you tend to get more cash if you skin and then sell the carcass (rather than selling the carcass whole), particularly from birds it seems, pluck them then sell the carcass for the most cash.

You can also just use the carcass to draw predators and scavengers in. It is a good way to get hawks and eagles in particular.
