Where is the logic?

Firstly, why should moving to far from shore cause your boat to sink? It makes zero sense. What makes even less sense is why your boat sinking should cause you to lose all the skins and pelts off the back of your horse? for a game that has some amazingly good elements it also has some of the most illogical concepts in it that, in my opinion, really let the game down.

All they had to do was ad one line of dialogue where your character says something like, "I don't think this boat is really suited to deep water." and then have you automatically turned around. Even keeping the current ridiculous system where your boat sinks, what braniac came up with the dumb idea to make you lose all the collected pelts and skins on the back of your horse because your boat sank. They should have nothing to do with one another.

Meh - I thought it was quite strange the first time it happened to me, but I guess they have to keep players within a boundary somehow.

The pelts are hardly worth anything. They aren't the point. The point is the ridiculous lack of logic in this game. You die on a boat which results in you losing items from a land based animal that was nowhere near the boat.
