Has clunky movement been fixed?
I bought this game about a year ago and stopped playing after 15 hrs due to the clunky movement. I just couldn't get passed it. Have they made improvements to this before I purchase the game on this new account?

Clunky movement ? Are you playing First Person ?

3rd person motion has always been pretty smooth, but your FPS could also be an issue.

There have been graphics changes over the past year, but no real improvements from my perspective.

Yeah it felt like the input lag was crazy high. The character just did not respond well to changes in movement. IDK hard to explain it just felt like crap. I played in 3rd person and no my FPS is no issue. Running a Lamborghini of a PC.

I understand what you mean, controlling the character feels very heavy. It never goes away entirely, similarly to Death Stranding it's part of the experience and immersion. I got it to mostly be unnoticeable by dropping the quality and getting myself back some frames. I have a pretty high end PC myself and I was still only getting 27 FPS in the benchmarks.

I changed it to fullscreen with 144 Framerate lock, dropped most settings to the second "performance" preset at the top, turned TAA to medium with high (65%) sharpening, turned volumetric cloud settings back on, set resolution scaling to 5/4, and turned on FXAA. Once that was done it took up about 4.2 GB RAM, looked visually just as good, and I stopped dropping frames completely, sticking at 144 always. It made my character much more responsive.

I find the movement smooth myself but rockstar designed it that you only "mostly" have control over movement, for example with the horse, the movement is quite realistic. If you are about to run into a tree your horse will try to avoid it or if you try to run off a cliff your horse will refuse. This takes away some of your control as the player but is more realistic which is what they seemed to be aiming for.

If having the feeling of 100% absolute control over movement is something you need, you won't like RDR2's movement and I doubt much has improved for you unfortunately.

This is just how movement kinda works in Rockstar games. They prioritize your character moving realistically within their environment over tight arcade-like controls.

I’m not saying that’s a good or a bad thing, it’s just how Rockstar games work. (GTA V has the same movement.)

Your character has momentum. But each animation must complete before another starts. So this does create some weird conditions. For instance if you loot a corpse and someone is coming and you want to pull your gun out, you can't until the corpse looting animation has completed. Some games allow you to interrupt the current animation when they receive a new input. I'm not saying you cannot interrupt any animations in RDR 2 but there are a few I know you cannot. When your horse gets near a cliff it will whinny and neigh and get on its hind legs a bit. You cannot stop this animation by moving back away from the cliff. And sometimes the animation causes the horse to get closer to the cliff.

The euphoria engine is notorious for making your character move like they're wading through molasses.

do you mind sending me your graphics settings or informing me on a way to get my fps increased? im am floating from 40-45 in heavily wooded areas and 50-60 in death matches (online).

It's a universal truth that rockstar games are clunky and unintuitive and their menu systems/layout suck ass.

I just think GTA and RDR 2 menus / interface are built with console and thus controllers in mind. They are both pretty awful on PC with respect to menus and selecting weapons, etc.

I actually bought the game on my other account and it has definitely improved from launch.

Your deductive reasoning is of extremely low skill.

In-Game:
Display Mode = Borderless Window
VSync = Off

Use NVIDIA GPU. Use NVIDIA Inspector and for RDR2 set:
Vertical Sync = ON
LOW LATENCY MODE = ON

Try to avoid 1st person mode in RDR2. As it displays many things differently and doesn't provide the same animations as 3rd person. 3rd person helps greatly also with positional and surrounding awareness.
