Sent Back in Story
Anyone know why the game sent me back in time? In the story mode, we went and defeated the O'Driscoll gang at their camp, successfully took them all out. Next we went out deer hunting with a bow, shot 2 deer and brought them back to camp, skinned them and the next thing I know Dutch gathers us up to go and fight the O'Driscoll gang.... again. Like, totally went backward in the story. What is up with that?

O'Driscolls are a huge gang, you will meet them multiple times during the story

To me it looks like an exact repeat of when Dutch gathered us all up in the barn, we went out on the horses to their camp and lambasted them by surprise. The whole thing is the same, even the conversation in the barn with Dutch just before we headed out. I will play through again though just to be sure... but I didn't want to do that battle over again!

I think you might not be understanding exactly what was going on with the story.

First raid is at the beginning of the game when you meet MIcah on the trail. You go to Sadie Adlers house and find that the O'Driscolls have killed Sadie's husband and it appears she might have been held hostage inside or something. Her house catches fire and she joins the Dutch gang. Right before that you interrogate the guy in the barn and he reveals the camp that is attacked after the deer hunting mission. He also revealed the planned train robbery that is done before heading down the mountain for the start of chapter 2.

There was no jump in time, neither forwards of backwards. If you skip the cut scenes you miss important story content, and that might be where you are getting confused.

It is possible that I missed the cut scenes, not intentionally, but I did press a button as the scene started because I got a notification on screen that there was a reward, so i clicked the button around the time the scene was starting, and it did go right into the barn where Dutch was, and so, yes, it sounds like I did miss something. Will be playing it through tomorrow. Thanks!

So, I was correct, didn't misunderstand anything, didn't misinterpret what happened. It actually did move me back in time to that same mission again. I played through it, we killed all the gang members in the camp for the second time. The only one difference was, that THIS time, after we finished that mission, there was not a hunting mission next, but instead we went to the train robbery. Oddness.
Second time after fighting them u had to capture an O'Driscoll alive right?
