Glad the 'Authentication error' still hasn't been fixed after THREE YEARS
So cool to launch my game one day and just hit a wall of "Authentication error", that keeps happening no matter how many fixes you attempt. Glad I bought this game instead of pirating it just to get locked out of the game altogether with literally no solution from R*

Welp I sure won't be paying money for GTA 5 or the RD1 Re-release, just remember everyone- your pirated copy is more likely to actually work then your paid copy.

Do you live in 1995? A 1 second google search revealed a dozen solutions.

Just relaunch the game again until it gets past that. It will.

The ISP is generally not the issue, but DNS can often be an issue. Change it.

Strange, I've never had this issue once in my 1600+ hours playing.

Had it a couple times; but that was back in 2020, never had a problem since except on some rare occasions that the rockstar services were down.

One major reason it can happen is your OS clock being out of sync.

After two days of messing around I finally solved this issue, and it was from a single buried reddit comment instead of the countless "How to solve the authentication issue" threads everywhere.

What did NOT work:

-Verifying Game files
-Deleting R* Games launcher and verifying files
-Deleting R* Games launcher and re-installing from the website
-Logging out then logging back in to the R* launcher
-Deleting and Re-Installing the game
-Deleting Mods
-Syncing my system clock
-Loading down CPU by launching/having other programs running in the background
-Running the game as an Administrator
-Running the R* Launcher as an Administrator
-Changing my Social Club Password
-Changing my DNS settings
-Turning off firewall/defender
-Doing an IP flush via Administrator level CMD
-Tried using a VPN
-Changed/Opened Ports on Modem

What DID work:

-Running Steam as an Administrator, in 'Compatibility Mode'

The most SIMPLE fix, not listed in any major threads about this issue, or even on the official R* Support page for this issue. I've launched the game a Dozen times now, no issues. Just make sure to change Steam to always run as an Administrator and you shouldn't (Hopefully) have any issues.

I hope this helps at least one other person having this issue, I cant imagine the collective time wasted on trying to fix this problem- when all that time should have been used enjoying this masterpiece of a game.

God I wish any of this worked but not even your solution helps me and I've also tried all of your prior attempted solutions to no avail.

I even tried using an entirely different network, same issue.

No idea what to do.... about to just refund.
Uninstall both R* Launcher and R* Social Club, not just the Launcher.

Then delete their R* folders found in prog files (x86) , prog files and your documents folder.

After that launch the game via Steam and everything you need to play the game should be freshly installed.
Yes it's more less a generic error due to your PC, the credentials or your ISP connection.

Change your DNS at the very least.
Scrub the LAN/WIFI cache.

Launch Steam and Rockstar Launcher via Run As Admin. Launch RDR2 from the Launcher, not Steam
Any solution?
