Crashing every 10 minutes
I've long since completed RDR2 and my character is around level 150 online, but each time the game is updated, my stability seems to tank.

In the past, I've been able to address this easily by updating my video drivers, but that solution is no longer working.

I usually run this game on mostly high settings, but I've tried adjusting my settings in many ways; running the game on low, swapping back and forth between vulkan and dx12, between fullscreen/borderless/windowed, and toggling Async on/off. I've tried validating my files and reinstalling/updating my graphics drivers.

At this point, I am getting Crashes to Desktop in both Story and Online modes, and they are occurring every 10-15 minutes on average.

RDR2 has always been crash prone after a few hours of play, but now I can't even finish a single story mission or do a single bounty online.

Game crashes when I pause to the menu every time. I get BSOD within 15 min in game. I own the game on Rockstar Launcher. I've done it all. Verify files, uninstall the game, uninstall Rockstar launcher... Reinstall everything.

Oof.

I haven't experienced that. Mine are always simple crashes to desktop, and they never include an error message.

That sounds worse than the crashing I've experienced with online mode where everything just freezes and I have to restart my computer. Oh yeah, I've also had an issue with the bootup screen for RDR2 just freezing in the middle of loading as well (The gray bar with the black screen before the game is loaded). It's usually a 25% chance that it loads successfully. Despite all these problems, I really like the game overall but these problems are making me question what priority R* is putting towards quality control for their PC ports.

So I figured out what was making my game crash constantly. This game doesn't like Reshade. I uninstalled it and disabled fullscreen optimization in RDR2.exe properties. Now the game runs like a dream come true. It did crash to desktop once when I went in the menu, but hasn't since then. So far so good.

Good to hear.

Unfortunately, I don't use reshade with rdr2.

Uninstalling Reshade made the game more stable. Just crashed again. I monitored CPU usage when it crashed and noticed a few cores spiked to 100 percent utilization which is not good. I thought they fixed that issue?

I'm in a similar situation. I played for 233hrs with high/ultra settings in 1440p without major problems ( I did have to add -ignorepipelinecache to achieve that). I didn't play for quite a while (got addicted to KSP and revisited Skyrim out of nostalgia) and now whenever I try RDR2 I get the GFX crash every ten minutes or less. I tried all kinds of settings in both DX and Vulkan, several drivers, validated files of course, every tip I could find online but nothing helps. Simply unplayable.

I've clocked 1,098 hours in RDR2, so I guess it can happen to anyone.

I tried a couple more times and now it runs for me on Vulkan. On DX I get crashes to desktop, on Vulkan a black screen for two seconds every now and then but it keeps running after that.

So my fix was a simple bios update. I updated my bios yesterday and no crashes what so ever. Been gaming half of the day and I am shocked that it is working. Nevermind the fact that the Bios update notes was system performance and stability related.

I play using Vulkan in borderless mode. I read on reddit that it's the most stable setting to use.

so you're getting the GFX error as well. yea it just started for me. bought the game today, played 4 hours of the story. got to the point where i stuck the dynamite in emmet grangers ♥♥♥♥ pile, and when it explodes...GFX error, please reboot and restart the game.

Same here, yesterday I've finished Epilogue after 53 hours and today the game crashes after 5 to 10 minutes of playing. Restarting PC didn't help. MSI Kombustor run 35 minutes at 100 % GPU usage with no crash.

EDIT: Solved - it was my new SSD that was dying.

I've reinstalled (again) and reset to my usual medium-high graphics settings and I'm seeing partial improvement.

I was able to leave the game running overnight in story mode and play for ~2 hours yesterday, but I'm still crashing in multiplayer after ~15-30 minutes.

I've just about given up on understanding what is happening.

I wish. I'm about to try installing Nvidia creator drivers instead of the game ready drivers but I have very little hope.

I've been able to play single player for a little longer on average now, but I think the only reason it didn't crash overnight was because it was paused.

The most I've managed was ~2 hours in single player, but its still averaging 20-30 minutes before a crash.

I had my hopes up after I beat the odds a few times, but it didn't last.

I'd say things have improved slightly throughout the week as I've tried things, but thats probably just down to random chance.
