Personally, I never put lanterns on my horses though, because I've found that they actually make it harder to see (it does help with what's immediately around you but hurts with anything beyond that and ultimately makes things worse IMHO).

Went ahead and took it off. It’s definitely easier to run in the forest now if anything. Got so used to the lantern being there that I tried to shoot at it when it came crashing through the trees toward me. Also it was night and it’s a black horse. 🤣
