And RDO is PvP - always - other players can always attack you, kill you, interfere with ur gameplay, and even simply grief and cheat - there is no way to stop another player from attacking you.
RDR2 "Story Mode" is a Single Player game in the same world as RDO, with missions that you can do or ignore.
If you truly want a Solo game, then u should really try Story Mode - otherwise, in RDO, my response is, well... you are playing a PvP MMO RPG
Also a way to get your own private solo session is to do a Blood Money mission, then immediatly launch any other free roam mission. This works because blood money gives you your own private session and the fact that it only switches your session to public if you are not in a mission.
It is possible to play red dead online alone by other methods, which are available in the steam guides on the rdr2 page and the rdo page.
ha ha ha - no worries
the game start interface is a bit odd - i think i played Online by accident at the beginning also
there is a mod
