You want might to take a look into the brother/sister couple who you can meet in the Meadows ;) (Aberdeen Pig Farm)
I won't give to much details because of "spoilers" (seems people are very sensitive abou it even after so many years :P)
But there is a trick to make that you can get all the gold you saved with Arthur tranfered to John.
ANd the way to get it done if funny AF.
Here is a link (WITH SPOILERS) to the trick:

That was patched a long time ago.
I tied it on 2 play-throughs after mid-2021; does not work.
There is simply no point to leaving John a bunch of money; it comes very easily. Same as with Arthur. If not then I don't understand how you be playing the game then cause you must be doing something all wrong. You never need ANY Gold Bars.
Still working for me, so I think you missed something?!
Or I am lucky, but I think we have the same version, fully updated and all patches etc.
(Did it +/- 2 months ago or so, just because I can, not because it is needed :P )
That one doesn't need gold bars and money comes easy was not what OP asked.
He asked a simple question, he got a simple answer and a tip.
I could have spoiled it for him of course, but what's the gain with that? (we, who have played the game till the end, know exactly what will happen, but taking that from him is kinda ruining the game for him since the "no need".)
We all found out certain things the first time which we don't do the next time we play I guess.
And: How can someone play it "all wrong" if he plays it in his own way?
On a complete different note: Impressive amount of hours you got in the game.
Depends on how a person plays. I have over $30,000 in cash. Never needed to touch any gold. I use banking mod and keep it in the banks. Carry small amount on me. If I get killed or arrested no big deal will not lose much money.
Ok maybe I'm confused. It's possible that was the Console version. I do know that when it came to Console vs PC, they weren't always on the same page when it came to story mode glitches and exploits. Like on Console there are alot more gold Bars you could glitch easily to get endlessly and on Consoles you could easily glitch the store cash registers and such.
