My game is crashing and freezing

I just bought the game. I'm running the game on a average pc with 4090.

At first I was running the game on Ultra but I couldn't go through the first chapter, bcus everything just crashed and freezed.

So I changed to High settings and I got through the first chapter. But now it's coming back... Crashing and freezing.

I did look around like changing the setting to unlock, deleting the bin and pipeline files etc. But still the game crashes.

Any ideas

Try going back to the June driver of your graphics card. I have had nothing but issues with the past two drivers nvidia has released. It would freeze and crash on any game at anytime.

Same advice as we unfortunately must give to the ever growing number of people experiencing this - file a support ticket on their website and make noise to bring it to their attention.

Fair warning , im trying to help , not start product war.Thanks.

That being said.
Could you be more specific with your crash?
Did you try directX or did you play on Vulkan only?
Is there something specific or unique that happens when it crashes?

Right now i know of one serious issue causing crashes. And its clash between Rockstar and Steam Overlay.
Rockstar has added full screen overlay to the game. Includes variety of stuff.
It suppresses it self to a degree when steam overlay is active but not good enough, Because on any achievement popup game will crash.
Only solution i found for the named problem is to disable Steam overlay for this game.

You should play at max settings with that card without any issues.
I am on 7800XT with everything cranked up -including all "unlocked settings*- (DirectX).--Note: when you switch to directX you need to restart the game---

Single player has no crashes at all. Multiplayer can crash sometimes (known issues)

Oh I forgot.... When it freezes, everything just stops. The whole game is still running, Arthur is breating and you can move the mouse, but nothing else is happening. He dosent walk or move.

And the crash is just a standard crash, you get a pop up error code or message and it shuts down.

Hey, lazy sunday for me lol

What do you mean which platform? You mean OS?

What error do you get as popup? What does it says in error?

Is this the error? https://i.imgur.com/okcuF9z.png
or something else?

That crash is overlay overruns memory of the gpu because of conflict , not actual low memory. Game only uses ~7gb vram out of 16

Right click on game in your library->properties
"enable steam overlay" on the right. Turn it off

You can also turn off Rockstar desktop notifications for good measure.
Launch rockstar app and turn off in options

so I manage to play the game not through steam, I don't know if thats make any difference. But like I said, 2-4 minutes after I launch the story mode, everything freezes. Like the game is still running but you can't do anything, everyone is just not doing anything. I'm still o the first chapter. I just tried it again.... I just got mad at this game.

im not PC expert, the reason why I bought a high end pc is just to avoid these kind of craps.

That doesnt sound good. I dont think i can help here man.
You need some serious hardware check.
As quick help, maybe try with new clean system ?
If that doesnt help it would be like some hardware issue, what about those 'famous' 12power pins on 4090 that people say they melt and cause problems

How about downloading some gpu software benchmark tools that would push ur gpu to limmits?
3dmark on steam has free demo can run timespy will stress cpu and gpu.
also Furmark
