Keyboard Input Lag when tabbing out
After the update this afternoon I get insane keyboard input lag outside of the game when I tab out. It doesn't matter if it's just the Windows Search Bar or a Webbrowser. Everything else working fine, no visual lags and no mouse input lag. Just the insane input lag when typing. Never had a problem until today. Other games working fine as well. This even occurs in the Steam Overlay when trying to chat with a friend or opening the Steambrowser. I have a Razer Keyboard, if anyone else has this problem.

Edit: For a temporary fix look up post #145 to #148. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1174180/discussions/0/4410794772264329409/?ctp=3#c4410795103741435405
Thanks to Bad 💀 Motha and J.Jonah for that.

Edit: Thanks y'all for that many Community Awards <3

So, I created a new steam account and bought the game again and the problem does not happen with the new account. Using the same pc and same rockstar launcher

It’s very odd. Seems like it’s an issue with older rockstar accounts

Ok yea IDK WTF Rockstar changed but it's VERY odd and inconsistant. I totally got around the issue by doing either option.

Load into either Story Mode or RDO; then once inside the game world, back out via ESC > Story > Quit. Once main menu is back, press WINKEY and type and see if the issue is gone. If not, do it again. Once it is gone it should be fine until next game launch.

Or if you simply never play RDO, it might be quicker to go into Settings > Graphics > Run Benchmark. Allow this to load in fully. Once it laods the game world. exit the benchmark with Backspace & confirm. Once at main menu, press WINKEY and type and see if issue is gone. I tried it in Windows Search, Chrome, Steam Friends via Steam Overlay and it's working now; but only after doing this trick of loading the game world, then backing out to main menu.

This is the lifesaver. Started the benchmark and let it run through about half. And the lag is gone! Thank you!

Yea I don't know how to explain the why about it. It doesn't make any sense really.

It doesn't do this during the Rockstar intro movie and legal screens; it does it as soon as the game reaches the actual Main Menu system. But loading into the game world (via Story, Online or Benchmark) then back out to the main menu magically makes the issue disappear for that entire game session.

A major reason it doesn't make any sense is because the game never got any updates; only SocialClub + Launcher did.

The Launcher is the problem, it injects some DLLs into the game itself that make the input lag.

Confirmed Temporary Fix:
At the main menu of RDR2:
- Go to 'Settings'
- Go to 'Graphics'
(at the bottom, hold the button for 'Run Benchmark')

After roughly 5 seconds in the winter-scene benchmark test, you can cancel and return to menu. The keyboard input issue should disappear.

You will have to do this each time you start RDR2 until Rockstar fixes this.

Yea it's the quickest way compared to loading into Story or Online.

massive agrees. it was doing fine, now loading is all slow, alt tab is broken, and it seems like some graphics settings get wonked occassionally

HOLY HORNS how did you figure that out???? It really works. As soon as the location with swamps is loaded in the performance test, you have to exit the test and then everything will work NORMALLY. THANK YOU DUDE!

Gotta hand this to "Bad Motha" for their random testing. Props.

I just tested, formatted, and simplified their solution.

Yes I had said that basically loading into the game world of any kind, that includes Run Benchmark which is actually quicker. Then soon as it starts, back out to main menu. But yes it was fairly random chance. I just happened to want to test some other graphics settings but overall everything is set to as high as possible with the exception of a few...

Tree Tesselation = Off
Long Shadows = Off
Motion Blur = Off
HDR = Off (in OS)
Fur = High (looks more natural)
Reflections = Medium
Textures = Ultra
Mirror Quality = Ultra

The rest is all on mix of High or Very High.

DLSS = Quality
DLSS Sharpening = 65
I do not use the outdated DLSS DLL that Rockatar provides, I use another DLL for that, version 3.5.10

Anyways yea it was not until yesterday for some reason I see this issue. I have had it before with GTAV and RDR2 and in the past it was a Steam issue where after game starts I have to go to Task Manager and set GameOverlayUI to Low Priority to not get Keyboard lagg in Overlay. But then I see tbis did not help all of a sudden and the lagg was OS wide. So after I ran RDR2 Benchmark I went to press WINKEY to type something and the lagg was gone. But yes it does it again after game gets relaunched later. Has to be something they did/changed with the SocialClub Runtime that runs in the background. I tried previously messing with changing all the Rockstar and SocialClub exe in Task Manager to Low Priority and 2 Cores and it didn't help or change anything. So was by chance I see after the Benchmark it's all fine again like it was never any issue. Loaded up into RDO and played for 4 hours, no problems or Keyboard lagg in OS, Chrome browser, Steam Overlay, Friends Chat, etc.

so this is a recent issue then, thank god
