How free is the 'Free' stuff?
A nagging question as I am finally playing RDR2 and RDR online. In the weekly update there is a 'community inspired outfit' which, as I understand it, is free. However, while I can see it in the catalogue as 'free', most of the items are level-locked, and the option to buy is greyed out.

So, it is only free for those who have reached level 40-70-90, i.e., for those who already have enough money to basically buy any outfit or clothing item? Is that how it works? Or am I missing something?

Also, a smaller matter... I do not see the Morales vest and the other stuff (Manteca Hat, Porter Jacket, Morning Tail Coat) which has, supposedly, come back, in any catalogue, either a Gen Store, Tailors', or hand-held. So, is this also level-locked?

You can use the "buy with gold" option to bypass those level requirements. The cost is still zero on the free items so don't be afraid to use it.

Yes, I have seen that. As I mentioned, however, the option is greyed out. Is this because I do not have enough gold to cover the nominal price if the item was not on promo? (Because, as things are now, these items show as 0 gold, and I have 0.89...)
I will also let you know
the limited time item rewards for accomplishing certain tasks can get interrupted by others that don't play fair and can corrupt the reward so its not rewarded.

So doing things more than once too get something while others be very difficult, while wasting everyone's time when information gets dump and when progress not saved because of errors.

Use caution when purchasing things and wear clothing out of the store, save outfits so ownership don't get lost, if interrupted between a length of time between updates.

Thank you for letting me know! Picked up a nifty trick yesterday, which allows me to keep the session private, unless I authorise. Has worked well so far, retains me in a private lobby even when switching on and off. But yeah, the whole reason I had to resort to this was exactly because I was ambushed by some muppet who kept burning me and the surrounding countryside.

the economy for On-line mode is very different from the economy in singleplayer "Story" mode

the story mode economy is based on dollars and trading things for dollars (whether buying or selling). this economy is very typical for singleplayer action / rpg-like games

the on-line economy is based on earning "gold bars" for advancement and "cool gear" - gold bars can be grinded with on-line activities, (at a medium grind rate ?), or purchased w irl$$. this economy is very common in on-line games.

Well, that's just common sense. Meaning, I know all that. It is also rather irrelevant to the issue at hand, since we are talking about 'free' items which cost zero (either dollars, or gold bars) in the catalogue, but still cannot be purchased by just anyone as level-locked. It is the level-lock that is at the centre of the issue here, with everyone saying 'oh, you can 'buy' these for zero, they are free', but regardless of this, the option is greyed out. So, it is not 'free' or, rather, it is not free for all players in the community. which in itself would be fine, if this was 'written on the tin'.

If they are free, I open the catalogue, and add them for free. This is what 'free items' look like. Or, if they come with conditions, these should be made clear, so that I don't waste my time, your time, and anyone else's time clarifying this. (And believe me, I am not alone asking about aspects of this.)

It doesn't take much playtime to reach level 100 in RDO though.
