You can Mod Single player BUT You should NEVER EVER try to go online when the mods or residue of the mods are present in your RDR2 Game directory cause if you do even by mistake, you will likely be Banned.

Unless things have changed for Rockstar when it comes to the cause of the Ban.

Btw don't let anyone use / play on your PC other than you cause the said person could be tempted to try to go Online.

If that happens then be aware that saying it wasn't your fault & that it was your friend / family members fault that they were the ones that went online & that it wasn't you, that Excuse will not help you one bit.

Just FYI

I haven't done it in RDR2, but in GTAV I had 2 installations of GTAV, one modded, one not.

I used the modded version to play LSPDR.

What I did was create a new installation, copy that entire folder, named the folder "not playing" or something like that. Then, when I wanted to switch, I would rename the folder I was playing to something else "not playing_1" and rename the "not playing" folder to the default folder name.

Drive space is not an issue for me, so your mileage may very. But you can easily pick up a cheap 2TB or whatever USB plug in SSD and keep the folder you aren't playing on that if space is an issue.

You can mod the game, it's safe as long as you play Story Mode.

Playing Online can lead into a ban if you have other mod .dll's or other files of the mods that don't belong in the original game.

No. I mean online mode has been dead for a long time thanks to script kiddies.

Online is fine and fun with friends. Public Sessions are the problem.
Don't play on Public Sessions.

Private Session is Safe & can be played in your own Private World were nobody can harass you with cheats or other annoying things, if the user / player does not want to bother with setting up a Private session & prefer to keep suffering then they should not come into the steam posts & complain cause of their own laziness.

Blame the player instead of the game. What a toxic way of thinking.
